    BENDER, Daniel J. - Peacefully, on Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at K-W Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, Kitchener. Daniel J. Bender of Nith View Home in New Hamburg and formerly of Wellesley. Dan was born in Kitchener 78 years ago. Son of the late John I. Bender and the late Mary Jantzi. He was a member of the Wellesley Mennonite Church and farmed near Kingwood, coming to Wellesley in 1966. He was also employed at the Grand River Hospital from 1968 to 1992.Beloved husband of the late Agnes L. (Roi) Bender, who predeceased him December 8, 2003. Dear father of Stan Bender and his friend Dana of Kitchener, Nancy and her husband Ray Haarsma of Petersburg, Steven and his wife Chris Bender of Wellesley, Carol and her husband Dan Soucy of Kitchener and Paul Bender of Wellesley. Loving brother of Selma and Nelson Roth of New Hamburg. Brother-in-law of Willis Lichti and Mabel and Arley Shantz.Cherished grandpa of Nicole and Jason, Adam and Troy, Katie, Michael, Kristen, Jessica, Samantha, Tiffany, Amber, Natasha, Carly, Alan and Brandon; great-grandpa of Lincoln.Predeceased by two sisters, Elfrieda Steinmann and Laura Lichti; a brother-in-law, Rudy Steinmann and a nephew, William Lichti.Visitation at the Futher Bros. Funeral Home, 1172 Henry St. in Wellesley, where family and friends will be received today (Friday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted at the Wellesley Mennonite Church, 157 David St. South, Wellesley, on Saturday, July 8, 2006 at 2 p.m. Pastor Julie Ellison White will officiate.     Bender, John Y., son of the late Daniel H. and Magdalena (Yantzi) Bender, was born in East Zorra Twp., Ont., Apr. 20, 1892; died at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, Ont., Jan. 16, 1969; aged 76 y. 8 m. 27 d. On June 20, 1918, he was married to Mary Jantzi, who died Jan. 4, 1953. Surviving are one son (Daniel), 3 daughters (Elfrieda - Mrs. Rudy Steinman, Laura - Mrs. Willis Lichty, and Selma - Mrs. Nelson Roth), 11 grandchildren, one brother (Allan), and one sister (Elizabeth - Mrs. Nicholas Kuepfer). He was preceded in death by 3 sisters. He was a member of the Maple View Church, Wellesley, Ont., where funeral services were held Jan. 19, with Chris O. Erb and Alvin Leis officiating.

    John I. Bender

    John I. Bender of 61 Brewery St., Baden, formerly of Kingwood, died today at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, after a brief illness. He was 76.

    Born in East Zorra Township April 20, 1892, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel H. Bender. He farmed near Kingwood, retiring to Baden in October, 1952. He was a member of the Maple View Mennonite Church, Wellesley.

    His wife; the former Mary Jantzi predeceased him Jan. 4, 1953. He was also predeceased by three sisters.

    Surviving are one son, Daniel of Wellesley and three daughters, Mrs. Rudy (Elfrieda) Steinman, Mrs. Nelson (Selma) Roth, both of RR 2, New Hamburg and Mrs. Willis (Laura) Lichti of RR 1, New Hamburg. Also surviving is a brother, Rev. Allan Bender of Wellesley and a sister, Mrs. Nicholas (Elizabeth) Kuepfer of Millbank. There are 11 grandchildren.

    Funeral service was held at Maple View Mennonite Church on Sunday. Burial took place in the church cemetery.

    Futher Funeral Home, Wellesley was in charge of arrangements.

    Roi, Mrs. Norman
    Passed away October 6 at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, in her 76th year. She was a member of 16th line Mennonite Church.

    She is survived by her husband Norman of Wellesley and one son Christ of Toronto; two daughters, Doris (Mrs. Mervin Kropf) of Route 2, Wellesley, Agnes (Mrs. Dan Bender) of Wellesley and one sister, Emma Oesch of Route 1, Milverton; survived by 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by one son, three brothers and two sisters.

    The late Mrs. Roi rested at the Futher Bros. Funeral Home, Wellesley. Saturday noon removal was made to East Zorra Mennonite Church, 16th line for service at 2: 30 p.m.

    Roi, Christina, daughter of Jacob and Barbara (Schwartzentruber) Bender, was born in East Zorra Twp., Ont., Oct, 25, 1899; died of a stroke at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, Oct. 6, 1976; aged 76 y. On Mar. 2, 1921, she was married to Norman Roi, who survives. Also surviving are one son (Chris), 2 daughters (Doris ; Mrs. Mervin Kropf and Agnes ; Mrs. Dan Bender), 15 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son (Willis), 3 brothers (Noah, Eli, and Manasseh), and 2 sisters (Amanda ; Mrs. Menno Zehr and Ida ; Mrs. Simon Bender). She was a member of the Cassel Mennonite Church. Funeral services were held at the East Zorra Church on Oct. 9, in charge of Ephraim Gingerich and Vernon Zehr; interment in the adjoining cemetery.

    Christian Roi

    Mr. Christian Roi, a well-known and highly esteemed resident of the Cassel district died last Saturday night, March 5th, at the age of 72 years. He had been ill for some time and sent through a critical operation on the stomach on Saturday forenoon, but owing to his advanced age failed to rally and passed away in the evening.'

    The deceased was born in East Zorra and spent his whole life there farming successfully for many years. He retired from active labor a few years ago. He was married to Lydia Brenneman, who predeceased him three years ago. Three sons and one daughter are left to mourn his demise. They are Emerson of Woodstock, Simon near Hickson, Norman on the homestead near Cassel. He also leaves three brothers and one sister, Lois, Joseph and Mrs. Sol. Brenneman, of Tavistock, and Joel Roi, east of New Hamburg.

    The funeral was held on Tuesday from his late home on the 14th line of East Zorra to the 16th line A.M. church and cemetery. The funeral was attended b a large circle of sorrowing relatives, friends and neighbors.

    Roi. - Lydia Brenneman Roi, wife of Christian Roi, was born in South Easthope, Perth Co., Ont., April 7, 1856; died April 5, 1929 in East Zorra, after an illness of four months; aged 72 y. 11 m. 29 d. In early life she accepted Christ, was received into church membership to which she remained faithful until the end. On March 25, 1886, she was united in marriage to Chris Roi. This union was blessed with four children, 3 sons and 1 daughter (Emerson, Simon, Norman, and Lydia, wife of Sol Brenneman. She is survived by her husband, 3 sons, 1 daughter, 13 grandchildren, 3 brothers, and 1 sister. Funeral services were held from the home by Jacob R. Bender and at the church at East Zorra by Chr. S. Zehr and D. S. Jutzi.
