Mr. George Auman, who during the last five years has developed into an energetic, aggressive and successful cattle-dealer, was born in St. Jacobs. When yet a lad he removed with his father to a farm boardering [sic] on the eastern limits of the Corporation of Elmira. After the death of his father, he acquired this farm and cultivated it successfully until the beginning of the current year, when his growing cattle trade demanded all of his time. He disposed of his farm and removed to Elmira. Associated with Mr. Auman, in the cattle business, is his son William, also Mr. Henry Peterson, a man of experience in the trade. The firm does an extensive and growing business in fat cattle, both export and butchers'. They also trade in horses and sheep and supply feeders with stockers, which they bring in car-lots. Their purchases amount annually to over $250,000. Their business is therefore one of the most important in Elmira. The firm also occasionally ship from St. Jacobs and Alma. Mr. Auman was a member of the Woolwich Township Council for six years, the latter two of which he held the position of Reeve. On his removal to Elmira, he withdrew from the field of municipal honors.
