    TO HIS REWARD.

The Brown City Banner gives the following obituary of the late Wendell Clemens, who was well known throughout Berlin and Waterloo County:

We are called upon this week to chronicle the death and burial of Wendell Clemens. who departed this life at 11 o'clock a. m. Saturday Aug 7h, at his home, one mile north and a half mile west of Deanville, Lapeer county, after a lingering illness covering about ten years with rheumatism, but was not seriously ill till about six weeks ago when heart trouble and dropsy set in, since which time he grew worse till as above stated the summons came, but not unexpected, and the good old man was ready to go to meet the reward of a Christian life, leaving the evidence to his dear companion and children of a glorious immortality beyond the grave. The funeral, which was very largely attended by sorrowing relatives, neighbors and friends, was held from the Mennonite church at this place Tuesday, Rev John McNally, of Blair, Ont, an old neighbor and bosom friend of the deceased officiating, assisted by Rev SS Rosenburger. Undertaker Jas Black, of Deanville, had charge of the corpse. The interment took place in the Brown City cemetery.

Wendell Clemens was born Dec 28, 1823, in the township of Dumfries, Waterloo County, Ont, and at death was 73 years, 7 months and 21 days old. He was united in marriage to Catherine Unger, Nov 25th, 1845, who still survives him. There was born to them twelve children, tens sons and two daughters, eleven of whom are living as follows: Mrs Oliver Burgey, of New Dundee, Ont.; Benjamin and Jes, of Berlin, Ont.; Nathaniel of Newstadt, Ont.; Moses of Burnside, Mich.; Wendell, of Berlin, Henry, of Waterloo, Ont.; James, of Burnside, Mich.; John, of Waterloo, Ont.; Allen, the only one still at home, and Mrs Louis Bluck, of Hespeler, Ont.

Deceased was a kind husband and a loving father. During his sickness he suffered a great deal but was very patient and towards the end longed to go home to be free from pain. The end was very peaceful and he passed away as one going into a peaceful sleep. He with his companion was converted to God 46 years ago, when they joined the Mennonite church and have ever since been faithful members.

The family wish to kindly thank the friends and neighbors for kindness and attention during their sad bereavement.
