    Hertzberger, Percy E. At K-W Hospital, on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1987, after a lengthy illness, Percy Emmanuel Hertzberger, of 507- 250 Mary St., Waterloo, aged 79 years. Beloved husband of the former Elsie Schmidt; dear father of Marlene and Lorne Gamble of Wallaceburg, Lois and Gordon Bergen of Kitchener, Patricia and Peter Rand of Hudson, Ohio; loving grandfather of Lynda and Richard McFadden, James and Michelle Gamble, Lauri-Sue and Nicolas Reekers, Shelley and Jamie Kropf, Thomas and Eileen Bergen, Stephen Bergen, Peggy and Joseph St. Jean, Charles, Jeffrey, Andrew and Christopher Rand - his special pal. Eight dearly loved great-grandchildren also survive; Matthew, Meghan and Jillian Kropf, Jodi-Lynn, Chad and Stephen McFadden, Patrick Sweeney-Bergen and Sean Reekers. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and past member of the church council. He was a retired superintendent with the City of Kitchener Parking Authority. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Henry; two step-brothers and two step-sisters. Visitation at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, after 7 p.m. this evening and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday. Removal will be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 825 King St. W., Kitchener, on Saturday at 9 a.m. Funeral and committal service will be held from the church at 11 a.m., with Dr. Barton Beglo officiating. Interment will be made in Woodland Cemetery. Donations to the K-W Hospital Equipment Fund or the K-W Association for the Mentally Retarded would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

    HERTZBERGER, Elsie E. - God in His gracious love and perfect time has welcomed Elsie home. She passed away on Friday July 20, 2007, at Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, in her 98th year. Devoted and loving wife of the late Percy Hertzberger who predeceased her in 1987. Beloved mother of Marlene (Lorne) Gamble of Chatham, Lois (Gordon) Bergen of Waterloo, Patricia (Peter) Rand of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Cherished grandmother of Lynda (Richard) McFadden, Laurie Sue (Nicholas) Reekers, James (Donna) Gamble, Shelley (Jamie) Kropf, Thomas (Eileen) Bergen, Stephen (Corinne) Bergen, Margaret (Joseph) St. Jean, Charles (Nicole) Rand, Jeffrey (Danial) Rand, Andrew (Cheryl) Rand and Christopher Rand. Elsie is also survived by twenty-seven dearly loved great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. One brother, Milt Schmidt of Boston also survives. She was predeceased by her parents, Carl and Emma Schmidt; sisters, Martha Sim and Bertha Nutter and brothers, Albert and Carl Schmidt. Elsie was a long time active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, participating in many organizations and singing in the church choir for many years. Throughout her life she touched many lived with her loving and giving ways. She will be missed by many friends, young and old. The family thank those who so enriched her life with your visits, your prayers and your love, especially during her years in the retirement home. Also thank-you to the staff at Freeport Health Unit, 3rd floor west. We so appreciate how you cared for Mom and for all of us with such compassion and gentleness. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A memorial service to celebrate Elsie's faith and life will be held at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Kitchener, on Friday, July 27, at 2 p.m. A reception to share memories of Elsie and visit with the family will take place in the parish hall of the church following the service. A private family internment service will be held at Woodland Cemetery, Kitchener. If desired, donations in Elsie's Memory may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church (Global Hunger and Development), The Canadian Cancer Society, Grand River Hospital (Freeport Health Unit) or a charity of your choice.     Mrs. Louisa Hertzberger, widow of the late Henry Hertzberger, died at the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital today following a stroke. She was in her 63rd year and had lived in Normanby for over 25 years, coming to Kitchener a year ago, following the death of her husband. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church, Normanby. She is survived by two sons, Percy and Henry Hertzberger of this city; four brothers, John Ziegler of Akron, Ohio, Henry and William Ziegler of Kitchener and Oscar Ziegler of Saginaw, Mich.; and by two sisters, Mrs. Caroline McLean and Mrs. Thomas Thompson of Hamilton. The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 2.30 o'clock from the Ratz and Bechtel Funeral Home, to Mount Hope Cemetery. Rev. A. Orzen will be in charge.

    Carl Christian Schmidt

    A widely-known figure in Twin City circles, Carl Christian Schmidt, 83, of 133 Shanley Street, Kitchener, died today at the K-W Hospital. He was the father of Milt Schmidt, of Boston Bruin hockey fame. The deceased was connected with the Lang Tanning Co. Ltd. until his retirement five years ago. He was born April 27, 1857 in Germany and came to Canada 60 years ago. He resided in Baden for 10 years and lived in Kitchener for the past 43 years. Mr. Schmidt was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Surviving are his wife, the former Emma Warnholz; four sons, Ernest and Albert of Waterloo, Carl of Kitchener and Milton of Boston, five daughters, Mrs. Conrad Herchenrater, Mrs. Wm. Nutter and Mrs. Percy Hertzberger of Kitchener, and Mrs. Frank King and Mrs. Edward Sim of Waterloo; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Remains are at the Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home where public service will be held on Wednesday at 2: 30 p.m., with Rev. W. A. Lotz officiating. Internment will be in the Waterloo Mount Hope Cemetery.

    Auction. - The Hertzberger property was put up at auction here on Saturday afternoon by the executors, viz : Messrs M. Hallman and C. Hofstetter. Mr. P. Sararus wielded the hammer and sold the house and lot comprising one-half acre of land for $162 to Mr. Alfred Knechtel of this place.

    Mr. Jacob A. Ziegler

    Following two weeks illness the death of Jacob A. Ziegler, 111 Waterloo street, occurred yesterday afternoon at his residence, shortly after 2 p.m. due to paralysis. The deceased, born in Heidelberg and a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, was in his 84th year. He is survived by his wife, Caroline Lang, four daughters, Mrs. D. Black, city, Mrs. H. Hertzberger, Clifford, Ont., Mrs. T. Thompson, and Mrs. C. MacMillan, both of Hamilton, two step-daughters, Mrs. C. O. Cremer and Mrs. I. Plant, Brantford, also 27 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The funeral will be publicly held on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. from Schreiter's Funeral Home with Rev. H. A. Sperling in charge of the services. Interment will take place in the Mount Hope Cemetery. The remains are resting at the late residence until Tuesday noon, when they will be transferred to the Funeral Home.

    Died While Here on Visit

    Mr. Julius Warnholtz, of Kitchener, passed away suddenly at the home of his son, Herman Warnholtz, about 8.30 Sunday evening. The deceased had come over to visit his son on Sunday, having visited friends at Kossuth and Beaverdale during the afternoon. He was sitting playing an auto harp when the call came. The deceased was born in Germany 75 years ago, coming to Hespeler from that country in 1902. He resided here for twenty one years until 1923, when he and his wife moved to Kitchener where they have lived with their children since. The late Mr. Warnholtz was an active member of the Lutheran Church. He leaves to mourn their loss his wife, four daughters, Maria, Emma, Martha and Hannah of Kitchener, and five sons, August, John, Julius and Marcus of Kitchener and Herman of Hespeler. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon in Kitchener the service being held St. Peter's Church, and internment in Mount Hope cemetery.

    The death occurred Saturday at 1.30 p.m. of Mrs. Julius Warnholz at her residence, 15 Braun street, in her 76th year. The late Mrs. Warnholz who was born in Germany, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Springer, came to Canada in 1902. She was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Her husband predeceased her three years ago. Three daughters, Mrs. C. Schmidt, Mrs. E. Simon, both of Kitchener, Mrs. E. Schycolowich, Toronto, five sons, August, John Julius and Marcus of Kitchener and Herman of Hespeler, 46 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, also one brother and two sisters in Germany survive. The funeral will be held on Tuesday afternoon with private services at the residence on Braun street at 1.45 thence to St. Peter's Lutheran Church for public services at 2.15. Internment will take place in Mount Hope Cemetery. Rev. H. A. Sperling will officiate.
