    DOWNS, LORNE ALBERT

    Entered into rest at his residence, 182 Water St. S. in Galt, on Wednesday, May 12, 1965, in his 74, h year. Husband of Gladys Hillis. Father of Sadie ( Mrs. Robert Hogg) and Christina (Mrs. Frank Taylor), both of Galt; Patricia (Mrs. Robert Springall) of Milton; and Lorraine (Mrs. James Garland) of Centralia. Brother of Mrs. Annie McQuarrie of Fergus; and George of Elora. Also survived by ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Downs was born in East Toronto on July 11, 1891, son of the late Alexander Downs and Margaret Stephenson. He lived in Elora for a number of years and after, moved to Glen Christie, where he lived for thirty-six years. He had been a resident of Galt for the past three years. He was a driller by trade and had worked, for many years, at the Gypsum Lime and Albastine Co. near Hespeler. He was a veteran of World War I and served with the 34th Battalion. He attended the United Church and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Galt, Branch 121. Service at the Coutts and Son Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrew's St. in Galt on Sat., May 15 at 2. Rev. A. E. Young of Wesley United Church officiated at the service. Rev, T. J. Rees of Elora United Church officiated at the graveside. Pallbearers were all members of the Royal Canadian Legion: Ernest Wilkinson, William Barber, Herbert Harney, Andrew Kidd, Frank Nuttall and David Goreing. Interment Elora Cemetery.
