    DOYLE, MICHAEL PATRICK "M. P. "

The very many friends and acquaintances of Mr. Doyle learned with much regret of his death, which took place at his residence, "Borris" in the township of Puslinch on Wednesday evening, August 21, 1912 at 6: 30, of a general breaking up of the system. He was in his 76th year and for the past year, had been in very poor health. For a couple of months last fall, he was very seriously ill but had somewhat recovered and was able to be up and around till three months ago, when he was again confined to bed and for the past month his death, was not unexpected. One of the most prominent of Puslinch pioneers, Mr. Doyle was an old and highly respected resident of Puslinch, where he resided all of his life, with the exception of about ten years spent at Maynooth, Hastings County, where he carried on a general store and where he married Catharine McDonald of L'Original, Prescott County. Had Mr. Doyle lived until November next, they would have celebrated the golden anniversary of their wedding. About forty years ago, he returned to Puslinch and bought the old homestead, later on buying four adjoining farms, among them the Kirkland place, where his family now reside. Mr. Doyle was a man of more than ordinary intelligence and was highly esteemed for his many sterling qualities. He always worked for the good of the community in which he lived and was particularly well known as a zealous supporter of the temperance cause, being a total abstainer himself. Everyone who knew him could but respect him, as one who had the courage of his convictions, one who did a great deal for temperance reform and for the benefit of mankind. The funeral, which took place from his residence in Puslinch on Saturday morning, was very largely attended, leaving the home at 8: 45 and reaching the Church of Our Lady at 10, where requiem high mass was celebrated by Rev. Father Cote. The funeral proceeded to the Roman Catholic Cemetery. The prayers at the grave were read by Rev. Father Drummond of Guelph and Rev. Father Wiedner of Hespeler, who were also present in the sanctuary during mass. Pallbearers were his six sons: John, Michael, James, Edward, Joseph and Thomas S. Doyle. Also surviving are his widow and four daughters, Mrs. J. O'Connor of Freelton; Sister M. Austin of the Loretto Community; and Misses Annie and Helen at home; two sisters, Mrs. Fitzpatrick of Elora; and Miss B. S. Doyle of Paola , Kansas. The C. M. B. A., of which he had been a member for years, was represented by President T. J. Hannigan, J. C. Kelleher, Frank Nunan and Dr. F. Walsh.

-Information from Annals of Puslinch, 1850-1950: Patrick Doyle purchased lot 3, rear of the 4th concession from the Crown in 1835. Here his son, Michael Patrick "M. P. " was born.

-Mary Doyle, who married James Fitzpatrick and lived in Nichol Twp. may have been M. P. Doyle's sister.
