Euology of Henry H. Dick

Henry H Dick was born in Dnepopotrovsk, Ukraine on June 1, 1922 to Henry and Marie (Unger) Dick,. He migrated with them to Ontario, Canada in 1924. In 1954 Henry was called to ministry in the USA, making that his third country of citizenship.

Henry grew up in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada and attended the newly formed Mennonite Brethren Church there. In November of 1942, while serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force, Henry received Christ as his Savior and soon committed himself to the ministry.

With much zeal for Christ and little experience, Henry began to preach with a team of military people three months following his conversion. He was also the founder of a radio broadcast every Sunday morning, where military people would share testimonies, sing and preach. The radio station provided free air time for the duration of the war.

On May 25, 1946, Henry married Erica Penner and they spent almost 72 years together. Their courtship was brief, although they had known each other since childhood. God's plans took Henry and Erica to the Mennonite Brethren Bible College in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Janet and Judy were born during their four years of Bible college. God's provisions were plentiful and Henry graduated with a Bachelor of Theology Degree and no debt.

God provided opportunities for Henry and Erica to serve in various capacities throughout their sixty-two years of ministry. They began their first full-time ministry in 1950 as church planters in Orillia, Ontario, where they recruited twelve school teachers to help. Their son, Jim, was born during this time.

Henry served for one year as Public Relations Director for Tabor College in 1954 and visited almost every US church. He went on to pastor in Lodi from 1955-58. Henry pastored at Shafter MB from 1958-1969 where the family developed deep friendships. From 1969 to 1972, he served as the General Secretary for the US Conference and then became the President of the MB Biblical Seminary from 1972 to 1976. In 1975, the Reedley MB Church called him to be their pastor and he ministered there until 1988. Always involved in the communities where he lived, Henry served with the Lions Club, Kiwanis and the Rotary Club. Henry appreciated that he received love and affirmation from these churches and institutions and he developed many life-long friendships.

Henry also served his denomination by being an active member of many boards and committees. In his 62 years of ministry, he served as Moderator of the North American Conference and the Pacific District Conference. He was chairman of the Board of Education of the US Conference and Chairman of the Board of Missions and Services. In his broader ministry, he travelled to fifty-five countries. Henry also served for ten years on the National Board of the National Association of Evangelicals and on the Executive Committee of Internal Mennonite Central Committee. In 1990, Henry had the opportunity to return to the country of his birth and visit with church leaders in the USSR.

Henry's first retirement was in 1988, however he still was involved as a volunteer fundraiser for the MB Seminary. In 1989 the Pacific District Conference called him to be the District Minister. He enjoyed relating to the over 120 churches in the district, preaching often in churches and conducting mission's conferences. He was frequently invited as a camp speaker in both Canada and the USA. Retiring from this position in 2003, Henry accepted the position of Minister of Pastoral Care at Dinuba MB Church, where he served until 2012.

Henry's priorities were serving the Lord, loving and caring for his family and being involved in the work of the local church and the conference. God gave him three children,(Janet and Art Enns; Judy and Ron Brown; Jim and Benti Dueck) six grandchildren (Mark and Jennifer Enns; Brian and Janice Enns; Patty and Norman Morrison; Rhonda and Geremy DeRuiter; Simon Dueck and Kim Dueck), and seven great-grandchildren Henry felt especially blessed that his entire family personally knows the Lord.
