Although Eben was on a thousand-dollar-a-year salary, Margaret Jr. became a full-time homemaker. No respectable young couple would expect the wife to work outside of the home after marriage. About a year after they were married, Margaret's father died; so her mother came to live with the Cressmans, bringing along her Scottish brogue. Granny became an integral part of the family, and her baby-sitting services often helped to release Margaret to do volunteer work.
