    DEATH CALLS MR. HENRY SCHAEFER

Manager of Canada Furniture Co., Waterloo, and President of W. M. S.

The Twin City has lost one of its most respected citizens and successful business men in the person of Mr. Henry Schaefer, superintendent of the Waterlo factory of the Canada Furniture Company and president of the Waterloo Musical Society, who passed away at his home, corner of Waterloo and Shanley streets, Berlin, at 5.30 o'clock on Saturday afternoon.

Mr. Schaefer's death came as a shock to his many friends in the two towns. He had been in his usual good health up to 5 o'clock Saturday moraing. having attended the band practice in Waterloo on Friday evening. Although he had had occasional week spells during the last six years, nevertheless his robust physique showed no signs of so early a demise.

From 5 o'clock on Saturday morning until his death he was unconscious. the immediate cause of death was convulsions due to the clotting of the blood in the brain.

Mr. Schaefer wes born in Conestoga. 52 years ago. His father, the late Mr. Jolm Schaefer predecessed him when he was only three years old. When twelve years of age he with his mother Mrs. William Brown, 22 Francis street north, 78 years of age, came to Berlin. where he had resided ever since. On June 17th, 1885, he was married in Waterloo to Miss Mary Huether, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.C. Huether. He is survived by his wife, one son at home and one daughter Mrs. Theodore Schaefer, Waterloo. Mrs. L. A. Boehmer. Berlin, is a sister and Mrs. Henry Oswald, Berlin, a step-sister. His only brother died many years ago. Mr. Henry Brown, Alberta. Mr. George A. Brown, Mr. Edward Brown, Toronto and Mr. Amsey Brown. Berlin, are step-brothers.

A review of Mr. Schaefer's life shows thrift and industry. At the age of twelve years he was forced to earn his living owing to the early demise of his father. Beginning as an apprentice in the finishing shop he, by dint of steady hard work and determiartion, finally became first, the head of his own concern and later, superintendent of the extensive plant of the Canada Furniture Company in Waterloo.

His first employers were the original firm of the Simpson Furniture Company In those days he did practicelly all the finishing in Berlin. His next place of employment was the H. Krug Furniture Company. Later he with Messrs. Woeller, Bolduc, Lippert and Klippert organized what is now the Woeller-Bolduc Furniture Company, Waterloo. Some time later he branched out into business for himself and with Mr. George Killer, Berlin, bought the Klippert concern; Waterloo, which he conducted successfully until the amalgamation of this plant with the Canada Furniture Compeny some years ago, when he became manager of the factory, which position he filled successfully until the time of his death.. His death will be big loss to the Canada Furniture Manufacturers as he was the finishing expert for the whole company. The vacancy will be hard. to fill.

Mr. Schaefer however was active not only in business but also is musical and sporting circles, where his loss will. be keenly felt. At ab early age his musical traits were quite evident. While employed at the Krug Furniture Company he organized a band. Later he became a member of the Waterloo band in which he took leading part and played the first cornet. At the time of his death he was president of the Waterloo Musical Society. He also took a deep interest in many kinds of amusements in the town of Waterloo. Many were the offices to which he had been elected in sporting circles. He was known not only as a quiet and courteous citizen but also as an upright business men, respected and much beloved by fellow employers and employees. He was a prominent member of Germania Lodge No. 184. I. O. O. F., Waterloo and of the A. O. U. W.. Berlin. In politics he was a Conservative.

The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon at the residence, After services at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, the remains will be taken to their Iesting resting place in Mount Hope Cemetery.

The Waterloo employees of the Company will meet at one o'clock at the factory and then proceed to the residence The Berlin men will go direct to the home.

    AN OLD RESIDENT GONE.

Christopher Huether Passes Over to Join the Majority After a Few Months Illness.

Early on Tuesday morning Christopher Huether, for many years a familiar figure on our streets, passed away, after suffering for some months of a dropsical affection, at the age of 67 years and 10 days. His name is inseparably connected with the fine substantial brick structure on King St., known as the Huether House. Four years ago his son, Mr. C. N. Huether, assumed full control of the Brewery and Mr. Huether, sen., retired. About four months ago he undertook the management of the Agency at Penetang for his son where he remained until four weeks ago when he was brought home ill. The funeral will take place from the residence of his son, Mr. O. N. Huether, King St. at 1.30 p. m., Friday, to St. John's Lutheran Church, for service thence to Mount Hope cemetery for interment. The late Mr. Huether emigrated from Germany forty-four years ago. After remaining in Albany, N. Y., two years he came to Waterloo where he resided up to his death. About forty years ago he entered in partnership in the brewing business but soon after bought out his partner's interest and carried on the business himself until about four years ago.

Mr. Huether served a number of terms as town councillor. He was a life long member of the Lutheran church and served for many years on the trustee board. He was twice married. His first wife nee Kleeberger predeceased him twelve years. Nine children-two sons and seven daughters were born of this marriage, viz: Christian N. and Jacob Huether; Mrs. Onas. H. Froehlich, Mrs. Thos. Sherman, Mrs. C. Treusch, Mrs. Hy.Shaefer. Three daughters predeceased him, Annie, Sophia and Mrs. Kellar. In 1888 he was married to Mrs. Norman Snyder who survives him.
