Martin, Annie Peacefully went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Knollcrest Lodge, Milverton, at the age of 98 years. Much loved wife of the late Sylvester S. Martin (2003). Dear mother of Wayne and Shirley of Limehouse, Ontario, and Dorothy Ann and Joe Leis of RR 4, Listowel. Fondly remembered by seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Will be missed by sisters Mary Zehr, and Amy and Norman Zehr. Sister-in-law to Seleda Martin, Lovina Brubacher, Henry and Eileen Martin, Ada and Stan Valenta. She was predeceased by her son David F. Martin (2007), father Christian Erb, mother Nancy (Wagler) Nafziger, stepfather John Nafziger, siblings Esther and Amos Steckley, Daniel and Christina Erb, Katy and Chris Gerber, and brother-in-law John Zehr. Also predeceased by Sylvester's siblings Edwin and Almeda Martin, Ivan and Alvina Martin, Howard Martin, Elizabeth and Enos Gingrich, Aden and Alice Martin, and Norman Brubacher. The family will receive their relatives and friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Crystal View Mennonite Church, Floradale, where a funeral service will be held on Friday, December 27, 2013 at 10: 30 a.m. Interment to follow in Crystal View Mennonite Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Christian Aid Ministries or Knollcrest Lodge, Milverton. Arrangements entrusted to the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira.

NAFZIGER.- Nancy, daughter of the late Daniel and Mary (Gerber) Wagler, was born Oct. 22, 1891, in Perth County, Ont,, died at her home near Brunner, Ont., Nov. 21, 1979, at the age of 88 years and 30 days. She was a member of the Cedar Grove Amish Mennonite Church. On Feb. 20, 1913, she was married to Christian R. Erb, who predeceased her Nov. 1, 1920. On Jan. 18, 1925, she was married to John S Nafziger who survives. Also surviving are one son, Dan W. Erb of Poole, Ont.; four daughters: Mrs. Sylvester (Annie) Martin of Linwood, Ont.; Mary, widow of the late Aaron Steckly of Wellesley, Ont.; Mrs. Christian E. (Katie) Gerber, Wellesley; and Mrs. Norman L. (Amy) Zehr, Brunner, Ont.; 19 grand-children; 35 great-grandchildren; one sister Mary, widow of the late Menno Brenneman. She was predeceased by one sister Esther, wife of Amos Steckly, two brothers Amos and Ezra, two sisters Mrs. Noah (Barbara) Erb, and Mrs. Samuel (Katie) Gascho. Services were held Nov. 24, 1979, at the Cedar Grove Amish Mennonite meeting house by Bish. Arthur Gerber and Min. Melvin Jantzi, burial in the adjoining cemetery.

It is with deep sorrow that we have to report the death of Mr. Jacob Wagler, who died on Tuesday, the 5^th inst. at 5 o'clock in the morning. The funeral took place on Thursday morning at 9, and was well attended. Mr. Wagler was the first Amish settler in this community and was a man highly respected by all who came in contact with him. Many a weary traveller found shelter under his roof and he always was kind to them. No doubt he will be much missed. The sympathy of the community goes out to the bereaved family in this their sad affliction.

DEATH OF BISHOP WAGLER.

Mr. Jacob Wagler, Bishop of the Amish Mennonite church, died at his home on the fifth line on Tuesday morning. He had been ill but a few days and was in Wellesley village within a week or so. He was in his 62nd year and was apparently a healthy man until attacked by pneumonia a few days ago. He has lived in this section a very long time and enjoyed the highest esteem of all with whom he came in contact. For nearly 20 years he has been a bishop in his church and was a powerful speaker. His remains are to be interred at 9 o'clock this (Thursday morning.)

Historic C.1900 slant-top desk crafted by Waterloo County cabinetmaker Christian O. Gerber (1845-1928, Wellesley Ontario). Refer to Michael Bird's "A Splendid Harvest - Germanic Folk and Decorative Arts in Canada" (1981: p.115, fig. 83). An outstanding example. Pine, grain-painted surface simulating figured maple, cross-banding, and paneling, full-round pilasters ebonized with floral highlights. Said to be the 'the nicest known' example. Condition: Excellent. Untouched original surface. Desk writing surface felt deteriorated. 42.5" w x 21.5" d x 57" h.
