    REV. BENJAMIN GINGERICH

    NEW HAMBURG - A farmer in the New Hamburg district all his life, Rev. Benjamin Gingerich, 74, of Jacob Street, New Hamburg, died at his home Tuesday. Born in Wilmot Township, he was a son of the late Rudolph Gingerich and Marie Zehr. Ordained in Wilmot Amish Mennonite Church in 1930, he was a member of Steinman AM Church. He moved to New Hamburg 11 years ago.

    He and his wife, the former Katherine Steinman, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Dec. 5. Survivors include two sons, Elton of RR 2, New Hamburg, Melvin,at home; four daughters, Mrs. Moses (Elva) Roth of RR a, Shakespeare, Mrs. Isiah (Marian) Gingerich of RR1, New Hamburg, Mrs. Lloyd (Alma) Roth of Ailsa Craig, Mrs. Floyd (Christina) Steinman of RR 2, Baden; one brother, John, of Baden; one sister, Mrs. Christian (Magdeline) Steinman of RR 2, New Hamburg; and 20 grandchildren. The body is resting at his home where a private service will be held Saturday afternoon. Church services will be conducted at the Steinman AM Church at 2 p.m. by Bishop Orland Gingerich. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

    Roth.-John W., oldest son of Nick D. and Mary (Wagler) Roth, was born near Tavistock, Ont., Jan. 2, 1892; died Oct. 10, 1928; aged 36 y. 9 m. 8 d. He was married to Barbara S. Bender, Oct. 11, 1916. No children survive except an adopted daughter. He lived in Canada all his life and was never ill. He had united with the Amish Mennonite Church near East Zorra and remained a member till his death, which was sudden and a great shock to many. He was drawing his last load of gravel for the day when he was killed by a passenger train. Both arms and legs were severed and his skull was fractured. He was taken to the hospital but died a few minutes after the accident, without regaining consciousness. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and daughter, parents who live at Clarence, N. Y., 4 brothers, 5 sisters, grandparents, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the home of his wife's parents by Daniel Steinman in German and Peter Nafziger in English. Burial took place in the East Zorra Cemetery. The funeral sermon was preached by his uncle, Daniel Yutzi.

The deceased was a life long resident of Wilmot Township and resided on a farm south of Baden. She was a devout member of the Amish Mennonite Church and greatly beloved by all who knew her. Her husband predeceased her about twelve years ago. She leaves a grown up family, John, Abraham and Benjamin Gingerich of this community are sons of the deceased.     Steinman - On the 28th of Nov. 1903, near New Hamburg, Waterloo Co., Ont., Christian Steinman, aged 52 Y., 17 D. He fell through the barn floor on the 27th, and at first felt no evil effects from the fall, but soon complained of pain in his head. Growing worse, a physician was called, who pronounced the case fatal, because of a ruptured blood vessel in the head. He became unconscious and the same evening after being speechless for some time, and passed away early next morning. He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Jutzi) Steinman*, two sons and six daughters**, also three brothers and five sisters and many friends, all of whom deeply mourn his death. Buried Dec. 1. Funeral services at the house by John Nafzinger and at the M.H. by Chr. Zehr and Jacob M. Bender. Peace to his ashes.

    Nicholas D. Roth The death of a former well- known resident of East Zorra occurred on Friday, April 2nd, when Mr. Nicholas D. Roth passed away at the home of his brother-in-law, Mr. Chris. Wagler, in South Easthope, at the age of 72 years, 11 months and 19 days. He had been in ill health for some time and spent two weeks in the K.-W. Hospital, returning some weeks ago, since which time he had been confined to bed the late Mr. Roth was born in East Zorra, a son of the late Nichlas L. Roth. Forty-three years ago he married Mary Wagler and they resided on farms in South Easthope and on the East Zorra townline until 1922, when they moved to Clarence, New York State. Owing to ill health he returned to South Easthope three years ago and resided with his wife's mother until his more serious illness overtook him. There are left in bereavement his widow, four sons, Emanuel, of Wilmot, Noah of Wellesley, Amos of Clarence, N.Y., Daniel of Topeka, Indiana, and four daughters, Mrs. Ben Riegsecker, Middleburg, Ind., Mrs. E. Schwartzentruber, Wilmot, Mrs. Alvin Miller and Mrs Eli Bontrager, Clarence, N.Y. He is also survived by two brothers, Jacob D. Roth, of South Easthope, and Christian D. Roth of Cassel, and four sisters, Mrs. David Ries, Mornington, Mrs. John Gascho, Elkton, Mich., Mrs. Joseph Kropf, Wilmot, and Mrs. Dan Jutzi, East Zorra. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon from the home of his brother-in-law, Mr. Chris. Wagler, to 16th line East Zorra A. M. Church for service followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery. A large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends assembled for the funeral services, which were conducted by Rev. M. Kipfer, Rev. Jacob R. Bender and Rev. B. Gingerich. The pallbearers were all nephews of the deceased, namely : Elam Roth, Solomon Roth, Michael Jutzi, David Wagler, John Wagler and Henry Wagler.
