    Roy Nichol

    Roy Nichol of RR 6, Galt, died Sunday at South Waterloo Hospital in Galt. He was 67.

    Born in Ayr April 24, 1902, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs Andrew Nichol and had lived in St. Catharines before moving to the Galt district.

    He was predeceased by his wife, the former Jessie Brash, in 1960; and two sons, Roy and Thomas. Surviving are five sons, Donald, James and Douglas, all at home, William of Galt, and Gary of Preston; four daughters, Mrs. Shirley Molner of Brantford, Mrs. Gordon (Jessie) Wilkinson of Preston, Mrs. Clare (Isabel) Watson of Galt and Mrs. Norman (Doreen) McCoy of Dundas; one brother, David of Detroit; and three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Cook of Santa Ana, Calif., Mrs. Mary Greives of Detroit and Mrs. Belle Stark of Fort Erie.

    Funeral services were held yesterday.

    Andrew Nichol Passes

    Well Known Resident of North Dumfries Township Died on Tuesday In 80th Year


    A well known resident of North Dumfries passed away on Tuesday evening at his home on Ayr - Roseville Road in the person of Andrew Nichol, in his 80th year. He had been ill for about 6 weeks. Mr. Nichol was born at Oneida, and had resided on the farm on which he died for the past 58 years.

    He was the last member of his family and is survived by the following family of eleven children: James, Klowna, B.C. William, of Thorndale; Mrs. Howard Grieve (Florence), Detroit; Mrs. Walter Grieve (Mary), Detroit ; Mrs. William Murray (Jane), Cayuga; Andrew, at home; Mrs. Charles Cook (Elizabeth), Hayward, Cal.; Mrs. David Stark (Isabella), Fort Erie North; Roy. Ayr; Edward, Ayr; David, Ayr. His wife, whose maiden name was Isabella Williamson, predeceased him 14 years ago. The funeral will take place to Ayr Cemetery on Friday at 2 p. m.

    Mrs. Andrew Nichol

    The death occurred on Sunday of Mrs. Andrew Nichol, North Dumfries Township, aged 60 years and 1 day. Deceased had been ill for several years, and her demise was not unexpected. She was born in the County of Haldimand, coming to this section when quite young. She was married 41 years ago last October and had resided on the farm on which she died for 38 years. Of a kind and loving disposition she was much esteemed by a wide circle of friends, who will regret to learn of her passing. Besides her sorrowing husband, she is survived by the following 13 children: James, Viewfield, Sask.; William, Nissouri; Mrs. Howard Grieve, Detroit; Mrs. Walter Grieve, Detroit; Mrs. William Murray, Buffalo; Andrew, at home; Mrs. Charles D. Cook, Oakland, Cal.; Mrs. D. Stark, Bridgeburg; Roy, at home; Edward, Detroit; Mabel, Myrtle and David, at home.     James Williamson. Sr's. Death

    Jas. Williamson, Sr., one of the longest and best known residents of North Dumfries, died at his late residence in Reidsville, on, the afternoon of Oct. 26th, In his 81st year. The deceased had not enjoyed the best of health these last few years, the malady from which he suffered being dropsy, though not taken down by it until these last few months, during which time he gradually sank, until his death, passing peacefully; away. The late James Williamson was a native of Greenock, Ayrshire, Scotland. He came to this country In 1834, landed at Quebec, where he remained for two years. From there he journeyed up the St. Lawrence to Kingston and onward up the lake to Toronto and Hamilton. Inquiring for work on his way, but finding none he started inland and reached Cayuga and Caledonia, which were but saw mills at that time, but still meet with the same result. He started for Galt and obtained work in what was then known as the Galt Cut, in which he labored from start to finish. He was present at Galt's first Agricultural Fair, which was held below the lower bridge. Here he met one Mr. Baird, who engaged him to do some chopping of heavy timber, though unused with an axe he soon became an expert woodsman and many were the sturdy oaks that fell before his keen blade. A year or so later he became a farmer on his own account and about this time he was married to Annie Calder, the youngest daughter of James Calder, who survives him. He leaves a family of eleven, of which seven are living. They are: James, David, Mrs. George Hodgson and Mrs. Geo. McDonald, on the Manitoulin Island and Andrew, Mrs. Andrew Nichol and Mrs. Walter Rutherford, of North Dumfries. The deceased was a successful farmer, living almost continuously with-in a mile and a half of Ayr. He took a great interest in political matters, being a pronounced Reformer. In religion he was a Presbyterian. He took a great delight in reading and repeating the Psalms and was well versed In Scottish history and a great lover of Burn's poems. He was a man of sterling Integrity and straight forwardness In business matters and had a wide circle of intimate friends. His wife will have the sympathy of the community in her her bereavement. The funeral took place on Thursday afternoon, at 10 o'clock, from his late residence In Cedar Creek, to the Cedar Greek cemetery.
