Willburt R.W. Hill

Willburt R.W. Hill of 185 Wilfred Ave., Kitchener, died last Friday at St. Mary's Hospital at the age of 72.

Mr. Hill, born in Minto Township, was a son of the late Mr and Mrs. Samuel J. Hill. He lived in Kitchener for five years and formerly lived in Toronto.

He was a charter member and deacon of Stanley Park Baptist Church. Employed in the traffic department of Union Carbide Lt., Toronto, for 35 years, he retired in 1951. He was a veteran of the First World War and was past master of Dufferin Lodge A.F. and A.M.

Surviving are his wife, the former Jean Boulding; six brothers, Victor and Wilfred of Kitchener, Dewart of Vancouver, Milton of Ayr, Oliver of Simcoe and Norman of New Hamburg; one sister, Mrs. Isabell Ruthig of New Hamburg. He was predeceased by two brothers, Leslie and Addison.

Funeral service was conducted at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home on Monday, Rev. William Lewis of Stanley Park Baptist Church and Rev H.E. Morphy of Highland Baptist church officiating

Burial took place in Memory Gardens.

The funeral of the late Samuel J. Hill a former resident of this village was held at the residence of his son. Milton Hill and Mrs. Hill on Friday afternoon. Rev. H. R. Mosig, minister of Trinity Lutheran Church. New Hamburg, officiated and interment was made in the Ayr Cemetery.

Esteemed Resident Passed Away.

Mrs. Samuel Hill, who resided near Washington, died very suddenly on Thursday morning last. Mrs. Hill had suffered from a serious disease of the heart for a number of years. She was in her 59th year and had been diligent in church and social work. She was one of the leading members of the Horticultural Society and had just recently represented the society at Toronto. She leaves to mourn her loss a husband, a large family of sons and one daughter. Isabella, who is teaching school near Listowel. The funeral, which was held on Monday afternoon, was largely attended, Interment taking place at Ayr cemetery.

Northward from Bond Head, two miles and a half, another village arose at an early date, and was known as Latimer's Corners from the name of the innkeeper of the place. It was also called Springville, but this name did not adhere to it, and it finally appears on the map as Newton Robinson. At Newton Robinson settlers arrived almost as early as at Bond Head. James Hill settled in Tecumseth here in 1825, near the edge of the wide swamp northward, over which there was a good view. Thomas and Edward Matchett arived amongst the first settlers of the neighborhood and took up lots 1 and 2 respectively in the 10th concession. Isaiah Rogers came to lot 3, con. 10, with his family from King Township in 1827; and John Lee located about the same time on lot 3, con. 11.
