    Notes:

TATTON- Nov 1st. - Mr. John Meldrum, who lived on the 2nd Con. of Peel, after seven days' illness passed beyond the bourne whence there is no returning. The deceased was born on the estate of the Earl of Life? in Aberdeenshire, Scotland in the year 1815. He with his wife immigrated to Canada in 1845 and with others of his countrymen settled in the County of Waterloo thereby aiding for many years to form a prominent and thrifty settlement. About 1876 he with his wife and family removed to the township of Peel and there acquired a comfortable home for himself and family. Mr. Meldrum was of a reserved and retiring disposition in later years and possessed of intelligence above the average. His fondness for everything British and especially the land of his nativity was marked. He was a lifelong Reformer and a consistent member of the Presbyterian church and to know him well was to like him more. He was highly esteemed in the community, and leaves a wife, four sons and several grandchildren to lament their sad bereavement.
