Lorne was in manufacturing management nearly all his life. Experienced at Floristry then to Button factory and into Supervision. Next to Electrohome stores and soon to Group Leader in production. Electrohome was television, radio, manufacturer. Served there 17 years ended as Gen. Foreman. Then to Galt Metal as shift Super. Then to Jemco Wiring as Manager.

Enjoyed doing things, mechanical, that others could not do. Did most repairs on cars and home himself, and enjoyed talking to people in all situations, talking to them personally, or on his C. B. radios.

Born while parents lived in a house beside the bowling green that used to be in front of the Dominion Tire rubber factory, on Strange St. in Kitchener beside the C. N. R. railway tracks. The house is now torn down and made into a parking lot along with the bowling green. The house was owned by the company as were all the others going up Strange St. to Glasgow, and then down Glasgow to the railway. When dad died we were forced to move, down Strange St. to the white house beside the Kitchener waterworks station at the lower end of Strange St. near Victoria. Number "35"- the house is still there. (1988)

Worked as the chairman of the Loans committee of the Electrohome Credit Union for about 3 1/2 years when working at the Electrohome as a Supervisor. Spent about 17 years at Electrohome. Started in stores dept. and shortly moved to production as a Group Leader. Shortly after made Supervisor and after several years was made General Foreman of own dept.

Health is fair with too much high blood pressure and arthuritis and rheumatism pains but am still working at 69 but have promised mother we will retire at 70 hopefully with our van paid off. Van paid off in 1993.

    Notes:

Spent most of her married life, working with her husband as Office Manager of Jemco Wiring Components, in Waterloo. Was a very good mother and wife to her family. Intensly loyal and fiercely protective. An excellent cook and Mother. Always thoughtful of the feelings of others, especially the children. A great grandmother and loved and respected by all. Though greatly loved by her husband and children.

Always maintained that she paid for the marriage liscence because her husband did not pay her back when she initially paid for the licence because he was a little short, at the time it was paid for. She was right.

Marlene was born and lived at 48 Dekay St. Kitchener. She met Lorne when he moved across the street to his sisters home. Their relationship did not start immediately, but her desire to meet him grew out of her relationship with the children of Lorne's sister Reta, where he was living. The children and "Uncle" Lorne used to sit on their front porch and sing songs while he played his guitar, and Marlene got in the habit of sitting with them. Marlene was old mentally for her age and for whatever reasons was soon infatuated with Lorne and decided that he was the guys he was going to marry. Lorne was around 27- 28 years old and she was around 16, but that did not deter her. Love was love and she had it. Of course she had no way of knowing that Lorne was the victim of several hurting love affairs, that had made him bitter and slightly distrusting of women, in general. They had also made him a very lonely man, and perhaps that made him a pushover for her, for he fell for her right away and could not resist her.

Her opportunity came when he purchased an old army motorcycle and asked her if she wanted a ride. She willingly consented, and jumping on the pillion seat put her arms around him and has never let go of his heart since. From then on she made herself a pest and was always in his way, no matter where he was or what he was doing, and their relationship blossomed quickly. Lorne, of course was having difficulty handling the age difference, as were Marlene's Father and Mother, but Marlene was set in her mind, and nothing would deter her. To make a long story short, marriage was soon proposed, but Lorne would have none of it until she was 18 which I am sure relieved her parents.

They were married at the Kitchener Y. M. C. A. by J Melvin Toone, the then President of the Canadian Mission, of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, (Mormon). The dinner was held in a restaurant that is now just a dilapidated old house, on old King St. East/South, below Fairway Rd. just about at the bend in the street before it gets to River Rd. Their marriage has been like all others, having it's up's and down's but producing 5 of the nicest kids anyone could want.

17 Mar 1993- The house where the dinner was held is now torn down and replaced by other buildings.

Farmer-Thresher-Woodcutter-Stationary Engineer for Dominion Tire-now Dominion Rubber-Strange S.t. Kitchener. Died as chief engineer in that Company's employ. Was self trained and so well liked that the company flag was flown at half mast at his death.

Emil's father Isaac owned farm on 9th of Peel, Wellington cty Ontario. Emil married Lydiann Musselman dau of Amos whose farm adjoined Isaac's farm After marriage they moved to the upstairs of Ruggles Store in Flordale near Elmira Ont. where their oldest child Elton was born.

After about a year they moved to the Elmira creamery building on the north-west side of Elmira and while here Emil became employed as a maintenance man at the Dominion Tires Co. in Kitchener. Elton is not sure how dad made the trip every day from Elmira to Kitchener but claims that within a year they moved to Benton St. S. near the old creek. in Kitchener. While here their back yard almost touched that of Isaac Umbach who lived behind them on Mitchell st. Kitchener which street ran off Queen st. S. almost into their back door. It was here that Reta was born. Shortly after they moved to the South end of Peter St.and then to the Alexander Hotel in Waterloo, which stood on the corner of William and King st (N. East) where there is now a doughnut shop. It is not known how long they stayed here before moving to 51 Domimion St. just east of the Tire factory where Elton thinks both Milton and Elmer were born. He feels that they were here for some time and then they were moved to 171 Strange st. right beside the factory where dad could be on call every minute of the day. It was a solid two story home with a double porch on the front( up and down) and a large maple tree on the front lawn. This tree was used extensively to tie the small kids to to keep them from running away. Lloyd, Lorne and Harold were born here. We lived here till dad died when we moved to the south end of Strange St. besides the Kitchener Water works, where we stayed till Lorne was about 26 or 27.

    Notes:

A great woman who loved her children dearly and suffered long from lack of returned love and from arthuritis and rheumatism. Her last years were made comfortable by her son Elmer, who though single and running a drug store, took her in and succored her till her death. He was and is a good man and christian. He took care of mother freely and without thought of his own welfare, when none other would have done so, and I personally commend him for his actions and concern. Were it not for his forthrightness she would have come to nought, although her life itself was a long process of worry and depression, .... Many were the nights that I spent with her at home, in my youth, while others were out enjoying their existance in various pursuits, I spent much of my youth playing games with her or just talking or listening to the radio as she rocked herself in her old rocking chair. I remember few of our conversations but frequently see her in my minds eye as she sat, a weary and disfigured body crippled with rheumatism and arthritis, who patiently and persistently toiled each day to feed and keep her family, without the aid of a husband, who, had he lived would have just added more sorrow to an already heavy heart. How difficult it is to love someone when you don't really know any love in return. Her marriage to dad must have had some good parts, which I know it had, but nearly all the wonders and harmonies of my early days are about and involve, my mother.
