    Notes:

    Another Old Settler Gone

Mr. William Linton, of New Aberdeen, in the Township of Waterloo, a very old resident of that section, died at his residence on Monday morning last. The deceased was a native of Selkirkshire, Scotland, and emigrated to Canada with his parents and family in 1810, settling for a time near Ottawa, thence moving to the Township of Waterloo, where the deceased settled on a farm near New Aberdeen, on which he resided up to the time of his death. Shortly after he married Miss Cruthers, who proved herself a most worthy wife and helpmate in all the struggles of their early farming life. They had a large family, all of whom are now married but the youngest. Adam and James live in Galt; Mrs. Teat and Mrs. James Robson, also live in Galt; John on a farm near Preston; Mrs. R. Nicol in Windsor, and David, the youngest, on the old homestead. The deceased who was a broth of Mr. John Linton, of Galt, was a most hard working, industrious man, of a quiet, peaceable disposition, and highly respected as a neighbor. He was in his ordinary health upon a few days before his death, when he was seized with inflammation of the bowels, his disease running its course until death terminated his sufferings.

Rather a singular fact connected with Mr. Linton's life was, that he was a twin brother, the other brother living now in the Township of Turnberry. The two were very much attached from childhood, being much alike in disposition. As young men they were very much together, and were so similar in appearance that even when met by their relatives, if alone, it was always a puzzle as to which brother it was, and frequently it was necessary to ask. Mr. Linton was in his 69th year at the time of his death. His funeral on Wednesday afternoon to Strasburg Cemetery, was largely attended by relatives and his many friends.
