    CANDY BUSINESS BORN FROM HOBBY

A Kitchener man who gave up his job five years ago when he suffered a stroke is now making a living for his family with a former hobby.

Milton Moral, 65, has become a candy maker.

He has been interested in it since he started making candy from recipe books when he was young. But then he didn't consider he could make a living at it.

After a three-month convalescence from the attack, he decided he was going to try.

He was working as a sprayer for Dominion Electrohome Industries Ltd., when the stroke, with its accompanying paralysis came.

"I figured I'd be more of a liability than an asset there, so I resigned," he recalls. He received a pension for his 16 years service.

    NEIGHBORS HELPED

"As soon as he was well, he said he was going into the candy business," Mrs. Moral says, "and I wondered how we'd ever sell it."
She called neighbors who had stalls in the city market and they agreed to let the Morals have space to display their candy. "Now I have five tables, two upstairs and three down at the market," Mr. Moral says with a smile of satisfaction, "and with my pension I'm making a living at it."

Cooking the candy on an old fashioned electric stove is Mr Moral's exclusive territory. His wife and daughter Odelle look after the dishwashing. "And there's lots of it," Mrs. Moral adds.

    BASEMENT WORKSHOP

The Morals are now converting the basement to a workshop, since they are selling 150 pounds of candy a week. They live a 3144 King St. East.

Each day Mr. Moral cooks up some of the 20 varieties he takes to market on Saturdays. In addition to peanut and coconut brittle, suckers, peppermint patties, fudge and coconut rocks he is now selling chocolates by the box.

Last Easter he made 1,000 marshmallow Easter eggs, and they were sold before 9 a.m. This year the Morals plan to make 2,000.

Only "member" of the family who doesn't share in the enjoyment of the sweets is Gem, a 100- pound great dane which eats a five-pound meal daily.

She isn't allowed to have candy.
