    PIONEERS' DESCENDANTS GATHER AT KITCHENER

Over 150 Members of Hamilton Family Honor Memory of Early Settlers

    (Special Despatch to The Globe)

Simcoe Aug. 12 - somewhat more than one hundred years ago James Hamilton and his wife, Margaret Hosse Hamilton, settled in the County of Waterloo near what is now the hamlet of Winterbourne.

They came from near Stirling Castle, Scotland, to Nov York; thence to Guelph, which consisted then of only a few log huts; thence to the old Hamilton homestead in Waterloo County. This farm Is now occupied by one of James Hamilton's grandchildren, Robert Forrest.

James Hamilton was a weaver of Paisley shawls. Along with farming, he and his family wove cloth for their settler neighbors. He was a musician, a. sweet singer, and taught music In the first singing school near Winterbourne which he himself organized. He was a great reader, bringing many valuable books from Scotland.

Wednesday, at the family reunion in Victoria Park, Kitchener, only one of the original group, "Aunt" Margaret, widow of John Hamilton, attended. The two oldest present were "Aunt" Margaret, aged 78 years, and Henry W. Cook, Simcoe, son of Luke Cook and Mary Hamilton Cook, aged 80 years.

In all, about one hundred and fifty of the offspring of the pioneers. Janice Hamilton and Margaret Hosse, Hamilton, assembled to become somewhat better acquainted with each other and with the story of a family that left its imprint upon at least one county in Ontario.

An organization was effected with the object in view of meeting annually in August at Kitchener or at some other equally convenient point. Robert Hamilton, Millbank, Wn8 elected President; H. Frank Cook. Slmcoe, Secretary, and E. G. Cochlin, Atwood, Treasurer.
