After their marriage they moved to Conestogo where he was engaged in the wagon and carriage building business, and also carried on blacksmithing in connection. In 1868 he retired from business and moved on a farm in Howick Township, Huron County, Ontario, where they resided until their deaths. In 1871 he was ordained as a minister of the Mennonite body which position he held until his death. He was a good man, a kind father, and a popular minister. As a rule he generally had the satisfaction to preach to well filled houses. His sermons were short and pointed. Many a weary pilgrim was encouraged to continue his service in the Lord's vineyard, while sinners were convinced of their folly of thus continuing their careless lives and were persuaded to quit sin and follow Christ. The church lost a good worker when he passed away, but let us hope that our loss proved to be his eternal gain. He died February 5th, 1892. They had a family of eight children"
