    Died at Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Saturday, September 10, 2011, in his 84th year. Beloved husband of Betty (nee McFadyen). Loving father of Fr. William Foote (Dr. Margaret Foote) and Janet Foote; grandfather of Catherine (Shawn), Mary (Jason) and Caitlin; great-grandfather of Ruby. Brother-in-law of William McFadyen (Janet). A longtime resident of Preston, he was the proud owner of Howard Foote Jewellers. Howard was a member of the Kinsmen Club and K-40 and served his community well. An avid bridge player with his close friends, Howard also enjoyed his many trips to Great Britain, with Betty. The family will receive friends at the Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Road, Cambridge on Tuesday, September 13, 2011, from 4: 30-6 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral and Holy Eucharist will be Celebrated on Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at 11 a.m., at St. John's Anglican Church, 567 Queenston Road, Cambridge. Cremation has taken place.

    Notes:

    A treasure of the same variety was a pewter communion cup brought to Canada. from a Presbyterian Church in Scotland more than 100 years ago . This was owned by Mrs. W . S . Foote . who also displayed an exquisite silk shawl as well as carved figures made of wood collected by her husband. Dr. Foote while serving in India during World War 1.

    Mervyn Bowman, 59, Fatally Injured in Bethel Corner Crash on Tuesday.

    FUNERAL ON FRIDAY

    NEW DUNDEE.-An inquest will be held at New Dundee, November 29, into the death at St. Mary's Hospital, here, Tuesday, of Mervyn Bowman, 59-year-old New Hamburg farmer, Chief County Coroner Dr. Ward Woolner said today.

    Bowman was fatally injured shortly before noon, Tuesday, at Bethel Corners, near New Dundee, when his car collided with a truck, allegedly driven by Alvin Egerdee, R.R. 2 Petersburg. Rushed to hospital by ambulance, he died three hours later. According to the coroner, Bowman's chest was crushed and he suffered a fractured skull and fractured ribs.

    Despite the fact the car was almost completely demolished Mrs. Bowman, wife of the victim, and his four-year-old grandson, Larry Schmidt of New Dundee, suffered only slight abrasions.
    According to police, Bowman was driving west and Egerdee south towards New Dundee when the accident occurred. Egerdee told police the front of Bowman's collided with the side of his truck. Both left the road and broke off "several" telephone poles and fence posts before coming to rest, police said.

    Dr. W. S. Foote, New Dundee, who attended the injured at the scene of the accident said Egerdee was not injured.

    Born at Port Elgin, Mr. Bowman was a son of Mrs. C. W. Backus, New Dundee, and the late Noah Bowman, New Dundee. He had lived most of his life in New Dundee district. Deceased was secretary-treasurer of Pine Hill public school for twenty-five years and a member of the finance board of New Dundee United Brethren church, of which he was a valued member.

    Besides his widow, he is survived by his mother, two daughters, Mrs. Jack Schmidt, New Dundee, and Mrs. Walter Schmidt, Kitchener.

    The funeral will be held on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the residence to New Dundee United Brethren church for service.

    Distinguished Musician Dies Suddenly, At SWMH

    William J. "Bill' McFadyen, 32 Southgate Road, died early today, October 27, at South Waterloo Memorial Hospital. His death followed a sudden illness at his home late last evening, He was in his 66 year. In the death of Mr. McFadyen, the city has lost one of it's most distinguished musicians. For more than 40 years he had been active as a pianist and organist, choir leader and band leader and for 23 years, supervisor of music in Galt schools. For nearly 14 years Mr. McFadyen was organist and choir director at Wesley United Church. He resigned from that position in the fall of 1944. In October 1940 Mr. McFadyen was appointed leader of the 2nd Battalion HLI of C Band. He continued in that post until January 1949, when the HLI of C group was disbanded. In that year Mr. McFadyen became musical director of the Galt Kiltie Band. He continued as leader of the Kilties, until June 1956, when Bandmaster Frank Gadd took over.

    HONORED GUEST

    In June 1964 Mr. McFadyen was one of five retiring teachers honored at a banquet given by the Galt Board of Education. At that time tribute was paid to Mr. McFadyen for the more than 30 years of service he had given in the public and secondary schools of Galt. Mr. McFadyen will be remembered by many citizens for the annual concerts by school children, which he conducted in Dickson park. Outstanding among these concerts was the Coronation Day concert, held in June 1953. Some 1,580 public school children took part in that concert, which was arranged and directed by Mr. McFadyen.

    NATIVE OF GALT

    Born in Galt, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hugh McFadyen, he was a resident of the city all his life. He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, a Mason, a member of Alma Lodge No. 72 AF and AM and a member of the Galt Kiwanis Club. Mr. McFadyen was married twice. His first wife, the former Etoile Reis, died in 1945. Surviving are his second wife, the former Edna Marrott, two sons, Donald R. of Newmarket, William H. of Toronto, one daughter, Mrs. Howord (Betty) Foote of Preston, one brother, Robert A. McFadyen of Kitchener and seven grandchildren. Friends will be received at Little's Funeral Home, 39 Grand Ave. N. Funeral service will be held at Central Presbyterian Church on Saturday, October 29, at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Mount View cemetery.
