On Nov. 7, 1929, he was married to Annie Gerber, who survives. Also surviving are one son (Carl), 5 daughters (Florence - Mrs. Arthur Steinman, June - Mrs. Vernon Schwartzentruber, Hilda Mrs. Elroy Gingerich, Marjorie - Mrs. Laverne Schwartzentruber, and Darlene - Mrs. Harold Culp), 26 grandchildren, 2 brothers (Daniel O. and Norman O. Erb), and one sister (Mattie - Mrs. Allan Gingerich). He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, one sister, and 2 grandchildren. He was a member of the St. Agatha Mennonite Church, where funeral services were held on May 13, in charge of Elmer Schwartzentruber and Nelson Martin; interment in the St. Agatha Mennonite Church Cemetery.

    Of Route 2, Petersburg, passed away at his residence, May 10, 1976, age 71 years. He was born December 8, 1904 in Wellesley Township, and had resided most of his life in Wilmot Township area. He was a member of St. Agatha Mennonite Church; a son of the late John L. Erb and Barbra Oesch. Surviving is his wife the former Annie Gerber; one son, Carl of Route 2, Petersburg; five daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Florence) Steinman of Route 2, New Hamburg, Mrs.Vernon (June) Schwartzentruber of Route 2, Baden, Mrs. Elroy (Hilda) Gingerich of Route 2, Petersburg, Mrs. Laverne (Marjorie) Schwartzentruber of Baden, Mrs. Harold (Darlene) Culp of Route 1, Atwood; two brothers, Daniel O. Erb of Kitchener, Norman O. Erb of Wellesley; one sister, Mrs. Allan (Mattie) Gingerich of Baden; 26 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. Predeceased by three brothers, one sister and two grandchildren. Will rest at the Bruce J. Omand Funeral Home, New Hamburg, after 7 p.m. this evening, where friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. Agatha Mennonite Church on Thursday at 2: 30 p.m. Interment in the church cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee.

    ERB, Annie Mae - Passed away peacefully on Friday May 14, 2004, at her residence Nithview Home, New Hamburg. She was born 96 years ago in Wilmot Township and was the daughter of the late Michael and Veronica (Jantzi) Gerber. Annie was a member of St. Agatha Mennonite Church where she was a member of the WMSC. Beloved wife of the late David O. Erb predeceased her May 10, 1976. Dear mother of Florence and husband Arthur Steinmann of New Hamburg, June and husband Vernon Schwartzentruber of Kitchener, Hilda and husband Elroy Gingerich of New Hamburg, Marjorie and husband Laverne Schwartzentruber of Baden, Darlene and husband Harold Culp of Atwood, Carl and wife Fern Erb of New Hamburg. Sadly missed by her 26 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren. Also remembered by her brothers Steve and wife Edna Gerber of RR1, Millbank and Michael and wife Laura Gerber of Wellesley and sisters-in-law Katie Gerber of Hepworth and Clara Erb of New Hamburg. Annie was predeceased by two granddaughters Lorie and Sherylyn in infancy, sisters Rachel and husband Ervin Bender, Ida and husband Ezra Stere, brothers Emanuel and wife Clara Ann Gerber, Aaron and wife Mary Gerber, Elmer Gerber.     SCHWARTZENTRUBER, Pastor Elmer - Passed away peacefully, on Thursday, December 21, 2006, at his residence Nithview Home, New Hamburg. He was born 97 years ago on April 17, 1909, in Wilmot Township, son of the late Christian and Elizabeth (Wagler) Schwartzentruber. Elmer was a member of Steinmann Mennonite Church, Baden, where he was ordained Deacon on August 31, 1941 and Minister on August 12, 1951. Elmer served the congregation until 1979 when he was named Pastor Emeritus. Since 1993, he was a resident of Nithview Home where he has enjoyed assisting fellow residents. Beloved husband of the late Magdalena (Mattie) Wagler, who predeceased him August 10, 1996. Loving father of Fern and Carl Erb and their children, Joilyn and Alex Hynes, Janelle and Doug Wenger (Charmian, Seth and Dana) and James Erb (Tristan); Mary and Mel Otterbein and their children Melri and Mike Wright (Matthew and Michelle) and Derek and Ellen Otterbein; Ruthie and Rick Umble and their children Randy and Melanie Umble (Jonny, Natalie, Erik and Katie), Ryan and Bethany Umble (Juliana) and Rodney Umble; Carol Joy Purves and her children Jonathan, David and Alijoy. Elmer is also remembered by sister-in-law Sarah Zehr of New Hamburg as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two grandchildren and his brother, Solomon and wife Lavina Swartzentruber. Friends and relatives may call at Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg, today (Friday) from 7-9 p.m. and again Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. On Sunday, December 24, 2006, a family committal service will take place at Steinmann Mennonite Cemetery at 1: 00 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service in the adjoining church at 2: 00 p.m. with Pastor Myrna Miller Dyck officiating.     MRS. MICHAEL GERBER

    Mrs. Michael Gerber, of RR 1 Tavistock, died at the home of her son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Bender, St. Agatha.

    She was the former Veronica Jantzi, and was born in Wellesley Township, Mar. 17 1876, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian Jantzi. She was a member of Mapleview Mennonite Church Wellesley, and a member of the WNSA of the church.

    She and her husband farmed near Petersburg until 1932, when they moved to Baden. Since 1933, she has been living in Crosshill. Her husband died in 1943. For the past year she has been living with her daughter.

    She is survived by sons, Aaron of Shakespeare; Manuel of New Hamburg; Rev. Elmer, of Hamilton; Rev. Seevanus, of Millbank, and Michael of Wellesley; and daughters, Mrs. David (Annie) Erb of Petersburg, Mrs. Ezra (Ida) Stere, of Tavistock, and Mrs. Ervin (Rachel) Bender, of Tavistock, and 46 grandchildren and five great great grandchildren, and 96 great grandchildren.

    The body is at the Futher Brothers Funeral home, Wellesley, until noon Thursday. The funeral will be held at Mapleview Mennonite Church at 2: 30 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

    Gerber, Veronica, daughter of Christian and Annie (Lichty) Jantzi, was born near Wellesley, Ont., Mar. 17, 1876; died at the home of her daughter Rachel, near Tavistock, Ont.; aged 94 y. 6 m. 25 d. On Nov. 13, 1895, she was married to Michael Gerber, who died on May 23, 1943. Surviving are 5 sons (Emanuel, Aaron, Elmer, Stevanus, and Michael), 3 daughters (Annie - Mrs. David O. Erb, Ida - Mrs. Ezra Stiere, and Rachael - Mrs. Ervin Bender), 46 grandchildren, 96 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandchild, 2 great-grandchildren, 6 brothers, and 4 sisters. She was a member of the Maple View Church, where funeral services were held Oct. 15, with Chris O. Erb and Vernon Zehr officiating; interment in the adjoining cemetery.

    Schwartzentruber, Christian, son of the late Christian and Veronica (Erb) Schwartzentruber, was born in Wilmot Twp., Oct. 30, 1865; passed away after a brief illness on April 15, 1957, at the home of his son, Elmer; aged 91 y. 5m . 16 d. On Sept. 29, 1891, he was united in marriage to Barbara Schwartzentruber, who predeceased him in 1902. On Feb. 15, 1906, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Wagler, who preceded him in death on Feb. 19, 1957. To this second union were born 2 sons (Solomon, Petersburg; Elmer, Baden), who together with 8 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild survive. He was the last surviving member of a family of 13. He accepted Christ as his Saviour in early life and united with the Wilmot Amish Mennonite Church where he was a faithful member until death. Funeral services were held at the St. Agatha Church on April 18, in charge of Ben Gingerich, Orland Gingerich, Peter Nafziger, and Moses Jantzi, with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

    District Couple To Observe 50th Wedding Anniversary

    Mr. and Mrs. Christian Schwartzentruber will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary o n February 15th, and will be at home to their friends on Sunday afternoon and evening, Feb. 12th, on the homestead at the home of Solomon Schwartzentruber, 1 mile west of Petersburg.


    Both Mr. and Mrs. Schwartzentruber are in fairly good health. The former is 90 years old, and his wife will be 85 in March. They were married Feb. 15, 1906, by the late Jacob Lichti, pastor of Wellesley Amish Mennonite Church.

    Mr. Schwartzentruber was born in Wilmot township near Petersburg, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Chris tian Schwartzentruber. He has one brother living, John Schwartzentruber, of Petersburg. Mrs. Schwartzentruber is the former Elizabeth Wagler, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wagler of Wellesley township and she has one brother living, Joseph S. Wagler, of Wellesley.


    Mr. and Mrs. Schwartzentruber have two sons, Solomon, on the homestead; and Elmer of near New Hamburg. They also have seven

    Isaac Wagler

    BADEN, Aug. 14. - The death occurred at St. Agatha yesterday of Isaac Wagler, 75 The deceased was born in Wilmot Township, Jan. 18, 1872. His death followed a lingering illness. He was a son of the late Christian and Magdalene Wagler.

    Surviving are his widow, Catherine Litwiller; two sons, Elmer of New Hamburg, Ervin of St. Agatha: 3 eight daughters Mrs. Noah (Victoria) Boshart, Baden, Mrs. John (Ida) Dietz, Waterloo, Mrs. John (Katie) Leis. New Hamburg. Mrs. Elmer (Mattie) Schwartzentruber, Baden, Mrs. Eli (Sarah) Zehr, St. Agatha. Mrs. Erie (Vera) Schulz, Kitchener, Mrs. Ervin (Verna) Zehr, Milver- ton, Mrs. Jonas (Laura) Wagler, St. Agatha; two sisters, Mrs. Jonathan Jantzi, Kitchener, and Mrs. C. B. Jantzi, Pine Hill. Thirty-nine grand- children and two great grandchildren survive. Two sisters, two brothers and two grandchildren predeceased him.

    A service will be held at the home of his son-in-law, Eli Zehr. St. Agatha at 2:00p.m., Saturday. A public service will be held at the St. Agatha A.M. Church. Interment will be made in St. Agatha A.M Cemetery. Rev. Benjamin Gingerich will officiate.
