ELMIRA - Melvin B. Horst, five month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac R. Horst, RR 1, Elmira, died yesterday at his home. He was born Oct. 22, 1952. He is survived by his parents, his two grandfathers, Titus Bauman of RR 3 Wallenstein and John B. Horst of Floradale, three brothers and four sisters. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the home of the parent's with further services at the North Woolwich Meeting House with burial in the adjoining cemetery. The body is at the residence

JOHN B. HORST

John B. Horst, 85, of Floradale, died Saturday Nov. 26, at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Noah M. Gingrich, Floradale, after a short illness.

He was born April 10, 1875, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel M. Horst. Feb 20 1900, he married Nancy Reist. She predeceased him in February. 1942.

Surviving are one daughter Mrs. Noah (Leah) Gingrich of Floradale; six sons, Menno of Floradale, Samuel, John and Isaac of RR 1 Elmira, Noah of St. Jacobs and Enos of RR 2, Drayton; two brothers, David at the K-W Hospital and Menno B. of St. Jacobs, 30 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was also predeceased by one daughter, a brother and three sisters.

The body was at his residence where a private funeral service was held Tuesday, followed by a public service at the North Woolwich Meeting House. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.

John married Nancy "Annie" Reist 20 Feb 1900. Nancy (daughter of Menno Reist and Mary P. Martin) was born 5 Jul 1878, Woolwich Twp., Waterloo Region, Ontario, Canada; died 17 Feb 1942; was buried , North Woolwich Mennonite Meeting House Cemetery, Floradale, Woolwich Twp., Waterloo Region, Ontario, Canada. She was united in marriage to Titus Bauman, who survives. Also surviving are 5 sons and 6 daughters. (John M. Bauman, Salina-Mrs. Isaac Horst, Lydia-Mrs. Joseph Martin, Adah-Mrs. Elam Burkhart, Kate M., Moses M., Hettie M., Titus, M., Lizzie M., Henry M., and Emmanuel M., all of Ontario), 2 stepsons (Josiah and Edwin Bauman, also of Ontario), one brother (Emanuel H. Martin, of Lebanon Co., Pa.), and 2 sisters (Mary-Mrs. Graybill Zimmerman and Leah H. Martin, of Lancaster Co., Pa.). She was preceded in death by infant twins, her parents, 4 brothers and 5 sisters. In her young years she united with the Groffdale Mennonite Church, Bareville, Pa., transferring her membership to the Mennonite Church in Ontario when she went there to live. She was a faithful member until death, and was concerned that her family live Christian lives. Death result from eryisipelas. Funeral services were held by Abram Bearinger and Addison Gingrich at the Peel Mennonite Church in Ontario, where burial was also made.

He was first married to Mary Ann, daughter of Henry Martin of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. She was born September 23rd, 1842, and died January 3rd, 1872. On October 27th, 1872, he was again married to Magdalena, daughter of John S. and Elizabeth (Burkhart) Brubacher. She was the widow of the late Michael Brubacher (See No. 1489 for full information). She was born April 12th, 1850. They reside about three miles west of St. Jacobs. Mr. Horst has a family of seven children, the eldest four of whom were born in Aldborough Township, Elgin County, near Clachan P.O., while the younger three were born in Woolwich Township, Waterloo County, near St. Jacobs."

After her husband's death she was married to Samuel, son of David and Leah (Mosser) Horst. He was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, October 30th, 1841. The second marriage took place October 27th, 1872. They reside about a mile west of the Conestogo Mennonite Meeting House. BAUMAN - Lydia, beloved wife of Moses S. BAUMAN, Elmira, Ont., died Aug. 12, 1923, of a complication of diseases; aged 62y. 1m. 14d. In early life she was converted and united with the Mennonite Church. She was the mother of 13 children, all living. She was buried in the cemetery in Elmira. Funeral services were conducted by A. Gingerich, Oliver Snider, and Urias Martin. May God comfort the bereaved.
