    Gertrude P. House

    Gertrude Phyllis House of Park Lane Terrace, Paris, formerly of Ayr, passed away in Brantford General Hospital, on Wednesday, April 3rd. She was in her 82nd year. Born in the Pewsey district of England, she was a daughter of the late William House and Eleanor Piper and had lived in Ayr most of her life. She worked for many years at Newlands yarn factory in Galt. Miss House was a valued member of Knox United Church, Ayr, and was a long-time Sunday School teacher at the church. Predeceased by a brother Bill and sisters Nora and Elsie. Dear aunt to nephews John (Ted) House of Plattsville, Larry House of Bright. Ronald Holman and John Holman of Brantford, niece Marilyn House of Woodstock and dear sister-in-law of Edith. Rested at the Wm. Kipp Funeral Home. Paris. Then to Knox United Church, Ayr. where Rev. George Saunders conducted funeral service Saturday morning. Cremation. Interment Ayr Cemetery.

    AYR, William House, 79, died at Bryanston Home, Brantford, today, after an illness of several months. He was born in Southampton, England and came to Ayr, in1911. He served with the 111th Battalion, Galt, in the First World War. He was a member of Knox United Church and the Ayr Horticultural Society. In the latter society he did a great deal of work in beautifying the village. He had been caretaker of the village council chambers for 30 years. He was employed with the JohnWatson Mfg. Company, until his retirement in 1944. Mr. House was predeceased by his wife a year ago. Surviving are two daughters, Gertrude at home and Mrs. Elsie Holman of Paris, Ont. and a son, William ofPlattsville, and five grandchildren. The body is at the Ball Funeral Parlor, Ayr, until Wednesday, when the funeral will be conducted, at 2: 30 p.m. Committal will be in chapel at the Ayr Cemetery.

    Mrs. William House Passes - The death occurred at her home in Ayr on Friday of Mrs. William E. House, in her 81st year, following an illness of seven weeks. One of the village's senior citizens, Mrs. House came here with her husband from England in 1911 and during the past 45 years enjoyed a busy and rewarding life. She was a member of Knox United Church, the Women's Missionary Society and Women's Association. For years she took an active part in the affairs of the Ayr Women's Institute. The former Eleanor Isabel Piper, she was born in Vernham Dean, Hampshire, England. On December 4, 1904, she was married to William House of nearby King's Somborne. The couple had a family of two daughters when they came to Ayr and were blessed with a son born here. Surviving, besides her husband, are two daughters, Mrs. M. Holman (Elsie) of Paris, and Gertrude of Ayr, and a son, William, of Plattsville. Two brothers and two sisters live in England, the eldest sister being 93 years of age. Five grandchildren also survive. - The Funeral - Funeral service was held at the W. O. Ball Funeral Parlor on Monday, conducted by Rev. R. D. Thompson. Interment was made in Ayr Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Carl E. Buck, Milton Holman, Clarence W. Davis, Clifford Challenger, Henry Wolfe and James C. Swan.
