    Mrs. Charles P. Ventham Passes

    One of Ayr's most respected senior citizens, Mrs. Charles P. Ventham died at Sunnyside Home, Kitchener, early Monday morning in her 84th year. The former Ada Maria Cooper, she was born in Ayr, a daughter of the late Edward Cooper and Mary Tubb. At the age of seven she went to England with her parents, returning to Ayr 18 years later. She was a valued member of Knox United Church and a life member of the Woman's Missionary Society. Mrs. Ventham sang in the church choir for many years, Predeceased by her husband, Charles Perren Ventham, in 1914, the late Mrs. Ventham is survived by one son, Vernon of Ayr; three daughters, Miss Vera of Toronto, (Mary) Mrs. Sydney Stearn of Nut Mountain, Saskatchewan, and Miss Dulcie of Banswara, South Rasjosthan, India. Eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive. Funeral service was held today (Wednesday) at the W. O. Ball Funeral Home, with interment in the Ayr Cemetery. Rev. W. J. V. Buchanan officiated.

    Death of Edward Cooper
    Held Distinction of Crossing Atlantic 19 Times


    The death occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. M. Ventham, on Thursday evening of Edward Cooper, aged 84 years, after being ill for two days of pneumonia. Deceased was born at King's Sonborne, Hampshire, England, and came to Ayr in 1875, along with several other families from that village, including the Hardings, Russets, Clarkes and Perrins. Deceased worked in Goldie's mill, Greenfield, for a lengthy period and was also an employee of the Great Western Railway (later taken over by the C. P. R.) at the time the tracks were laid through this village. During his residence in this community, Mr. Cooper made nine return trips to the land of his birth, which, including his original passage to Canada, gave him a record of 19 trips over the Atlantic. For a number of years, eight in all, deceased acted as mail courier for Ayr rural route No. 1, from which work he retired a number of years ago. He was a valued member of the former Methodist Church and later of Knox United. Deceased was a good citizen, who was much respected and esteemed by many friends. Besides his daughter, Mrs. A. M. Ventham, he is survived by two sisters in England. The funeral, which was private, took place to Ayr Cemetery on Saturday afternoon, the services being in charge of Rev. J. W. Currie. The pallbearers were: N. R. Morton, J. C. Powney, William House, Harold Plumstead, Richard Gemmell and William Manson.
