Sudden Death of Well-known Blenheim Resident

The community was shocked to learn of the death at Galt Hospital on Sunday afternoon of Thomas Bawtinheimer, a life-long resident of this vicinity. Deceased, who resided about 3 miles west of Ayr, was taken suddenly ill early Sunday morning with an ailment of the bowels. He was removed to Galt Hospital later in the morning where it was decided that an operation was the only thing which might save his life. The trouble had advanced too far however for an operation to be effective and Mr. Bawtinheimer passed away at 3 o'clock p.m. Deceased, who was 65 years of age, was born on the farm on which he resided, and was well-known and esteemed by a wide acquaintanceship. He was a member of the former Methodist church here which he attended fairly regularly. Besides his wife, whose maiden name was Mary Jane Scott, of Ancaster, he is survived by one daughter, Blossom, of London, and on son, William, at home. Two sisters and two brothers also survive: Mrs. John D. Guthrie, Ayr; Mrs. Charlotte Wells, Denver, Col.; David Bawtinheimer, Dundas; and George Bawtinheimer, Harrisburg. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon to Ayr Cemetery with a large attendance. The pallbearers were: Messrs. George R. Black, David Rodger, Norman Morton, Andrew E. Laurie, A. Bawtinheimer and H. Fraser, with Rev. Mr. Watt conducting the services. Numerous beautiful floral offerings bore silent testimony to the high esteem in which deceased was held.
