    Notes:

    Passing of Esteemed Ayr Resident - An esteemed Ayr resident for the past ten years, William D'Urban Makins, Church Street, passed away in the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital on Thursday after being ill for a considerable period. Mr. Makins was confined to Brantford General Hospital for many weeks and had returned home some two weeks ago. On Tuesday of last week it was found necessary to remove him to the K-W Hospital, Kitchener, where he passed away suddenly the following Thursday.

    Born in England

    He was born in Norfolk County, England, and came to Canada 50 years ago. He was employed at Brantford Coach and Body, Ltd. for more than 40 years and was foreman of the woodworking department. Mr. Makins was an elder at Wesley Untied Church while living in Brantford, and after moving to Ayr joined Knox United Church. Surviving, besides his widow, the former Mary Ann Sutton, are one son, Urban Edward, of Ayr; one daughter, Mrs. A.B. (Beulah) Raddin, of High Springs, Florida; one grandson, William, of Ayr; three brothers, George Henry Makins, of Brantford; Jeremiah and Richard, of Horningtoft, England.

    The Funeral

    The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Beckett Funeral Home, Brantford, to the Ayr Cemetery. The services, which were largely attended, were in charge of Rev. J.W. Currie, Ayr. Mrs. Bernard Yardley of Hamilton sang the beautiful solo, "Jesus, Lover of My Soul." The pallbearers were: Richard McGrogan, Ayr; William Smith, Brantford; Larry Pennell, Brantford; Bernard Yardley, Hamilton; Manton Howling, New Dundee; and John P. Gore, London.
