    Wilma Jean Burns, U.E.

    Wilma Jean Burns, passed away at her home in Kitchener, on March 15th, 2000. She was 76 years of age. Wilma was the loving wife for 54 years of Robert Burns, who predeceased her in February 2000. Also predeceased by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Earner, who at one time resided in Ayr. She loved having coffee with her friends at Coffee Time on King Street. For many years, she enjoyed bowling and taking care of the Laurentian Apartments library. She proudly helped with the Grand River Chapter of the United Empire Loyalists in its early years. She is survived by her loving daughter Cathy and her husband Masood of Yellowknife, N.W.T. She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren Riz and his wife Andrea of Toronto and Adam of Yellowknife. Funeral service was held from the Westmount Funeral Chapel on Monday, March 20th at 11 a.m.

    Manager, Lorne Earner Passes - A former Ayr bank manager, and a prominent citizen of this community, Lorne Robert Earner, 68, of Kitchener died on Wednesday in Victoria Hospital, London. He had been confined to hospital since the first of the year with a heart ailment. Born on April 29, 1899, in Lunenburg, Stormont County, Ont., he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Eamer. As a youth he joined the Canadian armed forces during the First World War and served overseas. He subsequently went into the employ of the Canadian Bank of Commerce and advanced to the managerial level. He came to Ayr in this capacity in 1946, and served for 12 years in that position until his retirement. He subsequently became accountant for J. W. Maus & Sons Ltd., a position he held for 7 years. Mr. Earner moved to Kitchener five years ago following the death of his wife, the former Ruby Morin February 1962. He was a keen sportsman and had a deep interest in civic affairs. One of his notable contributions to the community was his intense interest and devoted work in the Ayr Community Centre campaign in the late 1940's. He was treasurer of the committee, and it has often been said that he was personally responsible for contacting many of the generous donors in that campaign. He served on the board for several years after the Centre opened and his keen financial perception helped launch the project successfully. He was an expert lawn bowler, and as a member of the Ayr Bowling Club played on many tournament winning rinks. While here Mr. Earner was a member of Christ Anglican Church and served in various church offices. He later became a member of St. George's Anglican Church, Kitchener, where he was church treasurer. Mr. Earner was a member of the Kitchener branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. . Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Wilma) Burns of Kitchener; three brothers, Reginald of Montreal, Roger of Chatham and Whitney of Mount Rolland, Que., and one granddaughter. - The Funeral - Funeral Service was held on Saturday from St. George's Church, Kitchener, conducted by Rev. Roy F. Webb. Interment was made in Ayr Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Douglas and Hugh Maus and Jack Swan of Ayr, Lloyd Mark and Stewart Fox of Kitchener, Eric Toye of Waterloo, Fraser Hanna of Drumbo and Bert Argue of Tillsonburg.

    Death Of Mrs. L R. Earner

    One of Ayr's well-known and highly esteemed residents, Mrs. Lorne R. Eamer, 64, passed away on Monday at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, following a lengthy illness. She had been a resident of Ayr for the past 16 years, where her husband was manager of the Canadian Bank of Commerce branch until his retirement a few years ago. The late Mrs. Earner was an active church worker and popular in social circles and service work. She was a valued member of Christ Anglican Church and of several of the church organizations. Mrs. Earner served many years with the Ayr Women's Institute, where she filled several executive positions. She was also a member of the Ayr Bowling Club and several other social organizations. The former Ruby A. Morrin, she was born in Vankleek Hill, Ont., on June 22, 1898. Following her marriage, the couple resided in Dunnville, Tillsonburg, Cornwall and Picton, prior to coming to Ayr. Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Wilma) Burns of Kitchener; two sisters, Mrs. Thomas (Katie) Barton of Vankleek Hill, and Mrs. George (Hazel) Allen of L'Orignal, Ont.; three brothers, Gordon of Gatineau Mills, Que.; George of Dalkeith, Ont., and Merrill of Kapuskasing. A granddaughter also survives. She was predeceased by two brothers.

    The Funeral

    Funeral service will be held Thursday at 3.00 pm. at Christ Church, Ayr, with interment in Ayr Cemetery. Resting at the church from noon on Thursday. In kindness to the family, donations for the Canadian Cancer Society will be received at Coutts and Son Funeral Home, Ltd., 96 St. Andrew's St., Galt.
