Manager, Lorne Earner Passes - A former Ayr bank manager, and a prominent citizen of this community, Lorne Robert Earner, 68, of Kitchener died on Wednesday in Victoria Hospital, London. He had been confined to hospital since the first of the year with a heart ailment. Born on April 29, 1899, in Lunenburg, Stormont County, Ont., he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Eamer. As a youth he joined the Canadian armed forces during the First World War and served overseas. He subsequently went into the employ of the Canadian Bank of Commerce and advanced to the managerial level. He came to Ayr in this capacity in 1946, and served for 12 years in that position until his retirement. He subsequently became accountant for J. W. Maus & Sons Ltd., a position he held for 7 years. Mr. Earner moved to Kitchener five years ago following the death of his wife, the former Ruby Morin February 1962. He was a keen sportsman and had a deep interest in civic affairs. One of his notable contributions to the community was his intense interest and devoted work in the Ayr Community Centre campaign in the late 1940's. He was treasurer of the committee, and it has often been said that he was personally responsible for contacting many of the generous donors in that campaign. He served on the board for several years after the Centre opened and his keen financial perception helped launch the project successfully. He was an expert lawn bowler, and as a member of the Ayr Bowling Club played on many tournament winning rinks. While here Mr. Earner was a member of Christ Anglican Church and served in various church offices. He later became a member of St. George's Anglican Church, Kitchener, where he was church treasurer. Mr. Earner was a member of the Kitchener branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. .
