    Mrs. Dickie's Death

The hand of death has been quite active in our little community during the past week. On Friday morning another citizen in the person of Mrs. Dickie passed away at the ripe age of 82 years and 4 months. As intimated in these columns last week, she was stricken with paralysis a few days previously and rendered unconscious, so that death was not unexpected. The deceased, whose maiden name was Margaret Mitchell, was born in Ayrshire, Scotland, in 1820, and was married to the late George Dickie. Together they came to Canada soon after the union, first residing In Blenheim, where they followed farming for about five years and afterwards lived in North Dumfries until their removal to Ayr some 23 years ago. Mr. Dickie, who was the eldest by about 5 years, predeceased his partner 17 years. A family of eight children were born to them-six sons and two daughters, only three of whom survive, viz., George in Cavalier, N. D., Mrs. James Lillico, Blenheim, and Miss Margaret A. at home. Mrs. Dickie was a consistent member of Knox church for many years and was widely known and esteemed. The funeral on Sunday afternoon to Ayr cemetery was largely attended, the services being conducted by her pastor, Rev. John Thomson, who was assisted by Rev. D. I. Ellison. The pallbearers were: Messrs. Wm. Gemmell, Robt. Murray, Wm. Dickie, Robert Morton, Robert Carrick, Wm. Richmond. In Mrs. Dickie's removal this section loses one of its oldest pioneers-one who assisted in making the country what it is today and her memory will be cherished by a wide circle of friends and acquaintances.
