  1. 1.  Violet Driver Plumtree was born 4 Oct 1904, Bolton, , Lancashire, England (daughter of Ernest Plumtree and Mary Ellen "Polly" Bellis); died 20 Jan 1992, Paris, Brant County, Ontario, Canada; was buried 22 Jan 1992, Ayr Cemetery, Ayr, Waterloo Region, Ontario, Canada.

    Mrs. George Keachie

    Mrs. George Keachie passed away at Park Lane Terrace, Paris, on Monday, January 20th. She was in her 88th year. Born in England, she was the former Violet Driver Plumtree, a daughter of the late Ernest Plumtree and Mary Ellen Bellis. She came to Canada as a youngster. Married to George Keachie, the couple farmed for many years at RR 2, Paris, on the farm now owned by Ian Cruickshank. They moved to Ayr in 1948, residing at the corner of Scott and Main Streets. Shortly after her husband's death in 1962, she took up residence with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mantle at RR 2, Paris. A couple of years ago she took up residence at Park Lane Terrace in Paris. Mrs. Keachie was a member of Knox United Church, Ayr; former member of Ayr Women's Institute; and last president of West Dumfries Farm Women's Club. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a sister Alice Britton. Surviving are three daughters, Mary and Fred Mantle of RR 2, Paris, Georgina and Doug Turnbull of Burlington, Ruth (Murray) and Mac Saunders of Kitchener; a brother Charles Plumtree of Roseville; nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Rested at the Wm. Kipp Funeral Home, Paris, where funeral service was held today (Wed.) at 11 a.m. Interment Ayr Cemetery.

    Mr. and Mrs, Ernest Plumtree live up the back road, now named Tilt Drive, on the Stauffer-Cassel-Kummer- Howell farm, with their son Charles and his family. They planned to celebrate their golden wedding by having "open house" with all the trimmings; but Mrs. Plumtree was stricken with a stroke which put an end to their plans. Instead Mr. Plumtree went down to the South Waterloo Hospital and spent the day with his wife. Mrs. Plumt was a patient for some time and returned home and enjoyed life for a while longer. She died in 1960. She was born in Chestershire, England, moving to Wales when quite young. She was married on Feb.5th 1909 from her parent's home in Wroxham, Wales at the Calvanistic Presbyterian Church. They made their home in Bolton, England before coming to Canada. Mr. Plumtree was born in Derbyshire, England moving to Burton-on-Trent, when three years old. They came to Canada in 1913. Mr. Plumtree has sold produce on the Galt market since 1922. Beside their son Charles in Doon, there are two daughters, Mrs. George Keachie, of Ayr and Mrs. Alice Britton of Galt. Before moving to Doon Mr. and Mrs. Plumtree resided in Creiff. In 1970 Charles Plumtree sold his farm and bought a much larger farm between Washington and Bright. His father is still making his home with Charles.

    4th President - Mrs. Plumtree -1952-1956

    Mrs. Plumtree, a farmer's wife in Doon, was born in Cheshire, England on June 20th, 1882. Her maiden name was Mary Ellen Bellis. She attended Rhor Robin school in Wrescham, North Wales, and came to Canada after her marriage to Ernest Plumtree.

    Before coming to this district they farmer near Crieff. They came to Doon, with their son Charles and bought the farm on County Road 29, across from the Gingrich-Evens farm. Most likely this farm was part of the original Stauffer farm. Mr. and Mrs. Plumtree were members of the Doon Presbyterian Church, and added greatly to the singing as they both had fine voices. Mrs. Plumtree enjoyed coming to Sunday School and did like the Intitute meetings.

    They had been planning their 50th wedding anniversary but Mrs. Plumtree was stricken a short time before and had to celebrate the special day in the South Waterloo Memorial Hospital where she died on Oct. 31st. 1960, having lived in our community for twenty-one years. She left beside her son, a daughter and several grandchildren.

    Charles Plumtree bought the family farm and has been running it since his father retired. He has adopted two boys, and has two daughters. This year he sold the family farm and has bought a larger farm with splendid buildings near the Nith River, in Washington, Ontario.
