    Notes:

    Passing of Mrs. Geo. Smye

Influenza is no respecter of persons, conditions or circumstances. It invades the homes of all classes, not infrequently culling off the most useful members of society - those whose life is essential to the existence of others - mothers of infants and those who are least easily spared. In several cases in our own community we have seen this exemplified in a marked manner. The death of Mrs. Geo. Smye is a case in point, and one that elicits the deepest human sympathy. Only a day or two before her death Mrs. Smye had become a mother, and as if fate had conspired to intensify the ? husband and father was also down with the disease. Such cases are indeed pathetic. Mrs. Smye died on Wednesday, the 11th inst. She was happily married only eight years and leaves two children deprived of a mother's loving, tender care. Deceased was a consistent member of Knox United Church, and zealous worker in some of the church organizations, so that in both home and church she will be sadly missed. She was the elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Gemmell of North Dumfries. Besides her parents she is survived by three brothers and a sister - Matthew S., John, James, and Mary - all at home. The funeral took place from her late residence, lot 1, conc. 11, Blenheim, on Friday, when interment was made in the Ayr Cemetery, deceased's pastor, Rev. J. J. Brown, conducting the services.
