    Calvin Bretz

    A. Calvin Bretz of Ayr, passed away after a lengthy battle with sarcoidosis into the presence of Jesus while surrounded by his family on Wednesday, January 2nd, 2002, at Hamilton General Hospital. He was in his 67th year. Born in Wilmot Township, he was a son of Burley Bretz (1963) and Ruth Barley (1995). He had been a transport driver for New Dundee Creamery, Ault Foods and more recently Heritage Truck Lines. He will be greatly missed by his wife Carol of 33 years and his three daughters, Julienne, Charlene and her husband John. Maerzluft, and Crystal. He was also the very proud Grandpa of Elizabeth and Natalie, and was anticipating the arrival of his third grandchild in February. Mourning his passing are his brothers, Harold and his wife Ruby, Murray (1995) and his wife Elaine, Ron and wife Dorothy, Elmer and his wife Bonnie, Willard and his wife Sheila, brother-in-law Gil Johnson and his wife Bea and mother-in-law Ethel Johnson. Also mourning are many nephews and nieces: Melvin, Roy, Lome and his wife Sue, Karen and her husband Jeff Cole, Debbie, Cheryl, Tim and his dear friend Amy, Jennifer and her husband Gary Luloff, Vicki, Anne, Jeremy and his wife Lisa, Laura, Rebecca, Scott, Heather, Sharon, Cheryl Renecker, Karen and her husband Tom Graydon. Great-nieces and nephews include David, Joshua, Nicholas, Zachary, Christina Renecker, Kerrilyn and Kaylene Graydon. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his father-in-law Rev. Gordon Johnson (2000). A memorial funeral service to celebrate Calvin's life was held at Waterloo Pentecostal Assembly, Waterloo on Tuesday, January 8th at 10: 30 a.m. Cremation has taken place. Arrangments by Wm. Kipp Funeral Home.

    Burley G. Bretz

    PLATTSVILLE - Burley G. Bretz, 58, of RR 1, Plattsville, died today in St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, after a four month illness. A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Bretz, he was born on the farm where he lived all his life. He was a member of Plattsville United Missionary Church, a trustee of the church, member of the Christian Businessmen's Committee, director of Ayr Co-operative Credit Union and a member of the Federation of Agriculture. Surviving are his wife, the former Ruth Barley, whom he married in Kitchener in 1934; six sons, Calvin of RR I, Plattsville, Harold of RR I, Waterloo, Murray of Baden and Ronald, Elmer and Willard, all at home; one brother, Ivan of Kitchener and one sister, Mrs. O. T. (Myrtle) Coleman of New Dundee. The body will be at the Glendenning Funeral Home, Plattsville, until Saturday noon, when removal will be made to Plattsville United Missionary Church for service at 2: 20 p.m. Burial will be in Chesterfield Cemetery. Rev. Donald Pugh will officiate.

    HAMACHER, Ruth Levine (Bretz)

    On December 25, 1995, at her residence, Nithview Home, New Hamburg, Ruth Hamacher, formerly of RR 1, Plattsville and Wilmot Centre. She was born in Kitchener 86 years ago, a daughter of the late Robert and Lydia Ann Barley. She was a member of Wilmot Centre Missionary Church, where she had been a treasurer of the WM1 for a number of years. She was also a member of the Wilmot Centre Senior Citizens, a member of the former Plattsville Women's Institute and had been an active volunteer at Nithview Home and a former member of the Nithview Residence Council. Ruth enjoyed sewing, travelling, quilting and gardening as her hobbies. Ruth was predeceased by her first husband. Burley Bretz (1963) and her second husband, Roy Hamacher (1984). Lovingly remembered by five sons, Calvin Bretz and his wife Carol of Ayr, Harold Bretz and his wife Ruby of Kitchener, Ronald Bretz and his wife Dorothy, Elmer Bretz and his wile Bonnie, Willard Bretz and his wife Sheila, all of RR 1, Plattsviile. Ever remembered by her daughter-in-law, Elaine Bretz of Kitchener; her sister-in-law, Grace Barley of London, Ont.; 19 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was also predeceased by one son, Murray (1995); one brother, Percy and one sister, Grace and her husband Emerson Spies. Friends and relatives may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg, on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 1995 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and until Thursday, Dec. 28, 1995 at noon when transfer will be made to the Wilmot Centre Missionary Church for the service at 1 p.m.. with Pastor D. Mills officiating. Spring interment in Chesterfield Cemetery.
