JAMES GORMAN DEAD
Strayed From Home on Saturday
HE WAS FOUND BY A SEARCHING PARTY ON SUNDAY MORNING ON THE BERLIN ROAD
James Gorman is dead! This was the intelligence conveyed by one gentleman to another on Sunday afternoon. The particulars of Mr. Gorman's death had just been learned. It appears that between two and three o'clock, on Saturday afternoon, he was missed by his friends and later on a searching party of 30 or 40, was organized and started out, if possible, to find his whereabouts. Mr. Gorman was an old man, 74 years of age and his mind had been affected during the last two years, the result of a very severe attack of la grippe. Mr. Gorman's usual walk when he went out was up the Grand River. The party, went along the river for miles but failed to discover any trace of the missing man's whereabouts, even after scanning the town in every direction. The search was prolonged all Saturday night, but without a result. On Sunday morning about 8.30, Mr. Erastus Cornell, a well-to-do farmer, who lives about two miles north of Preston, on the Berlin Road, started to go to his barn to look after his stock, when he discovered the body of a man in the tall grass. It proved to be that of Mr. Gorman. Mr. Gorman's death could only have been from natural cases. He had been sick two or three weeks before and had not entirely recovered. He had been a resident of Galt for about 40 years, coming here from Galway, Ireland. He was married in Preston shortly after settling here and his wife survives him along with a family of four sons: John, in Toronto; Edward, in Grand Forks, Dakota; Michael, in Ellingwood, Ill. and James in Galt. The funeral took place on Tuesday to the R. C. Cemetery. Much sympathy is felt for the bereaved family, in their affliction.
