    Notes:

Mr. McPherson, principal of Victoria School in Galt, for the past five years, very suddenly and unexpectedly at 7: 45 on Saturday morning, June 14, 1890, at 54 years of age. In the morning, he arose in his usual health, was out for a short time, did some digging in the garden, partook of breakfast and was engaged in family worship, when his heart, which had been diseased for some time, ceased almost to act and growing feebler and feebler in its beats, in a few moments, he ceased to breathe. Mr. McPherson was widely known in this section. For about seven years, some twelve years ago, he taught the Killean School in Puslinch and only retired from that on account of his disordered health. After resting for a short time and if we recollect aright, taking a trip to the old country, Mr. McPherson returned and accepted the position of principal of the Arthur School, which position he held until he accepted that of head teacher in the Victoria Ward School, a subsequent decision of Board of Trustees, making the head teachers in both ward schools principals. In the discharge of his duties as principal, Mr. McPherson gave every satisfaction and held the respect and esteem of pupils and parents, who most sorrowfully regret that his kindly heart is stilled. In the other walks of life, Mr. McPherson discharged his duties in a way, which won him sincere respect. He was a devout Christian, very active in his connection with Knox Church and occupied the position of member of the session and superintendent of the Sabbath school, the duties of which office he fulfilled thoroughly. The funeral took place on Monday afternoon, the 16th from his residence on Rose St. to Killean Cemetery and was attended by the session, Sabbath school teachers and a large number of the members of Knox Church, the Board of Trustees and many of the older children attending the schools, as well as friends from the town, Puslinch and Beverly. Rev. Alex Jackson conducted the service at the residence.
