    In Memory of Mary Beth Wiegand 1939 - 2018

    With great sadness, the family of Mary Beth Wiegand announce her passing on Thursday, February 1, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 78.

    Devoted wife of Bruce, dear sister to Stuart (Jean) Hatch and loving mother of Robert (Jeanette), Heather (Jan) and Cameron. She will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as many friends and extended family.

    Predeceased by her parents James and Hope Hatch.

    Mary Beth was a kind, compassionate lady who enjoyed socializing with family and friends. She was an active member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Kitchener and their Women's Missionary Society. She was also actively involved in Women's Probus. Mary Beth enjoyed travelling and had the opportunity to see many fascinating places.

    Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Tuesday, February 6 from 1-4 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 11 a.m. A reception will immediately follow in the funeral home's Fireside Room. Interment will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery, Kitchener.

    HATCH, Hope M. (nee Goudle)

    Went Home to be with her Lord and beloved family members, at Cambridge Country Manor, on Monday, Oct. 2, 1995, age 85 years. Mrs. Hatch was born in Kitchener and was a daughter of the late Alice Weseloh and Arthur Goudie. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James L. Hatch and one brother, Stuart Goudie. She was a graduate in home economics from the University of Toronto, a former Auxiliary member of the A.R. Goudie Salvation Army Eventide Home and had attended First Baptist Church in Waterloo. While a resident of Altoona, PA, Mrs. Hatch, along with her husband was a member of First Baptist Church. Loving mother of Mary Beth and Bruce Wiegand of Waterloo and Stuart and Jean Hatch of Kitchener. She is also fondly remembered by her grandchildren, Robert and Effie, Heather and Cameron Wiegand, Andrea, Jamie and Blair Hatch; her step-mother, Olive Goudie of Kitchener and sisters-in-law, Marion Goudie of Kitchener and Esther Aurandt of Altoona, PA. Mrs. Hatch's family will receive friends at the Edward R. Good Funeral Home, 171 King St. S.. Waterloo, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today (Wednesday). The funeral and committal service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m., with Rev. Clarence McClenaghan officiating. Entombment in Woodland Mausoleum, Kitchener.

    Notes:

    A.R. Goudie was founder of one of western Ontario's largest family-owned department stores, Goudies, Ltd. He was among the first in Canada to encourage employees to be shareholders.

    A charter member of the Ontario Pioneer Community Foundation, he donated the Dry Goods and Grocery Store to Doon Pioneer Village.

    A native of Hespeler, he began his career as an apprentice to the Forbes woollen mills. He later travelled for the Ontario Button Company.

    In 1909, he became manager and vice-president of Weseloh-Goudies, Ltd. When the store was destroyed by fire in 1918, Mr. Goudie rebuilt it as Goudies, Ltd.

    He served as Ontario and national president of the Ontario Retail Merchants Association. An active supporter of many community organizations, Goudie's generosity made possible the building of the A.R. Goudie Eventide Home in Kitchener.

    May 18. Arthur Goudie, 76, was the founder of one of Ontario's largest family-owned department stores. In his native Hespeler he was employed by R. Forbes Ltd. before travelling for the Ontario Button Co. Later he became manager and vice-president of Weseloh-Goudies Ltd. When this store was destroyed by fire in 1918, he rebuilt it as Goudies Ltd. and this firm was one of the first in Canada to encourage employees to be shareholders. Mr. Goudie was national president of the Retail Merchants Association from 1936 to 1941. His participation in community service included the Salvation Army, Kiwanis Club, Children's Aid Society and Kitchener Council as alderman in 1931. A charter member of the Ontario Pioneer Community Foundation, he donated the old-fashioned Delaware store for the village near Doon.

    Mrs. Alice Maud Goudie, 57, of 13 Margaret Avenue, died yesterday at the K-W Hospital following s brief illness. Born in Dashwood, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. August Weseloh.

    Surviving are her husband, A. R. Goudle, one son, Stuart R. of Kitchener, a daughter, Mrs. M. Hatch (Hope) of Altoona, Penn, a brother, John H. Weselsh of Kitch ener, and six sisters, Miss Elizabeth of New York, NJ. Miss Isabell of Stratford, Misses Ada, Catherine, and Nelly of Kitchener, and Mrs. Douglas Legge of Toronto.


    Private funeral service will be held from the Hunter and Keffer Funeral Home on Wednesday at 2 pm. Entombment will be made in Woodland Mausoleum. Dr. W. E Pescott of Toronto will be in charge of the service.

    Isaac Goudie Passes at 88

    Fatal Illness Follows Fall From Ladder in Which He Broke Leg


    Isaac Goudie, 88, a resident of Kit chener for 45 years, died last night He had been in his usual good health until last week when he slipped from the bottom rung of ladder he had been using to trim a vine at his home, 25 Brubacher street, and sustained a leg fracture The shock from the fall resulted in his fatal illness.

    Mr. Goudie came to Kitchener in 1905 and opened a grocery store at the corner of Scott and King streets Later he operated at the corner of Samuel and Brubacher streets

    RETIRED 12 YEARS AGO

    After disposing of this business Mr. Goudie joined his son A. R Goude, in Goudies department store in 1914 At that time he be came a director of the company holding the position until his death. He retired from active work in the business 13 years ago.

    A son of David Goudie and Nancy Warner, he was born in Waterloo county. He attended the United church and was a member of the Canadian Order of Foresters.

    Mr. Goudie married Susan Witmer, who predeceased him in 1930 on May 16, 1883 He is survived by one son. A R. Goudie, president of Goudies department store Ancithes son, Robert J. Goudie, a former director of Goudies, predeceased him In 1928.

    FUNERAL TOMORROW

    Other survivors are two brothers Rev. Henry Goudie of Markham now in his 91st year and Rev. Samuel Goudie, Stouftville, and three daughters, Alice L. Goudie and Estelle I. Goudie, Kitchener, and Mrs Jenett M. Semple of Belleville. Seven brothers predeceased him.

    Public funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2.30 pm from the Hunter-Keffer Funeral Home. Rev. John Garden of Hamilton will officiate. The remains are at the Funeral Home and entombment will be in Woodland mausoleum.

    Mrs. Isaac Goudie

    Mrs. Isaac Goudie, mother of A. R. Goudie, passed away this morning at her residence, 25 Brubacher street, at 11.15 o'clock. Death came after an extended illness. The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock standard time from her late residence to Woodland Mausoleum where entombment will take place.

    MR. A. WESELOH PASSED AWAY THIS AFTERNOON

    Mr. A. Weseloh, one of Kitchener's prominent merchants, died about two o'clock this afternoon, following a few hours' illness. The news of his sudden death will be received with genuine regret by his host of friends.

    MR. AUGUST WESELOH.


    The funeral (private) of the late Mr. August Weseloh, who died after a brief Illness at his home, 82 Weber street. east, on Tuesday afternoon, will take place on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the- late residence to Mount Hope cemetery. No flowers. The deceased was in his 60th year and came to, this city about twenty-five years ago from Zurich. He has been engaged in the shoe and clothing business since residing here. Up to a few months ago he enjoyed robust health, but recently has been suffering from melancholia. He is survived by his wife, one son and eight daughters, who will have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in this hour of sorrow.
