    Notes:

MICHAEL FRIES, SR. - Only a month after the death of his wife there passed away at his home here Michael Fries, Sr. The shock of his life partner's death and the pain of the parting was too much for his enfeebled body to withstand. The deceased was born near Heidelberg in 1889 (or possibly 1839, blurred). At the age of 22 he was married to Elizabeth Frey. They took up the duties of married life on a farm north of West Montrose, then mostly primeval forest. Here the deceased put in many a day's hard labor in clearing the forest and getting the land ready for the plough, while his wife looked after the housework and raised a large family of robust boys and girls. With industry they succeeded in building up a fine home for themselves. After about forty years of farm life, Mr. and Mrs. Fries came to spend the remaining years in quiet retirement in Elmira. They enjoyed good health until a few years ago when the infirmities of old age began to make themselves felt. The deceased is survived by a large family. They are Solomon of Saskatchewan, Veronica (Mrs. Henry Dobberthein of Iowa, Michael of Elmira, Margaret (Mrs. Wm. Dobberthein) of Elora, Daniel of Kitchener, Jacob of Elmira, John of Bollingbrook, Ont., Katie (Mrs. Plate) of Kitchener, Lydia (Mrs. Levi Snyder) of Woolwich. Christina, (Mrs. Arthur Rhodes) of Kitchener. Magdalena (Mrs. Armand Fulcher) of Elmira. One brother, Daniel of Kitchener, also 54 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren survive the deceased. The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon. Rev. L. Kalbfleisch of St. James church officiated. The pallbearers were six grandsons; Clayton, Fred, Clarence and Gordon Fries, Herbert Dobberthein and Gordon Plate.
