    Ivan R. Hall Passes

One of Ayr's most prominent citizens, Ivan R. Hall, passed away this (Wednesday) morning n K-W Hospital where he had been seriously ill for the past week. He was in his 69th year. A leading figure in the community's church and social life, Mr. Hall counted a legion of friends who admired and respected his quiet and kindly temperament. He was a product of the old school of gentlemen whose adherence to immaculate customs of greeting and conversation were a pleasant departure in today's fast-moving world. He was born on the farm in Blenheim Township now owned by Merle Coleman. His parents, the late Andrew Y. Hall and Kitty Belle Robson were descendants of pioneer families in the district. He was eminently successful as a farmer at Perry's Corners for many years, and utilized his keen business acumen as a livestock drover. He moved with his family to Ayr in 1942 where he continued in the livestock market. One of the active members of Knox United Church here, Mr. Hall had served as an elder and on several other of the church boards. He was a keen sportsman, who excelled at curling and lawn bowling. He also took an intense interest in hockey and softball. When the Ayr Community Centre was built about a decade ago Mr. Hall was appointed to the campaign committee. Not only did he work long and assiduously in this capacity but donated generously financially and with volunteer labor for the project. He was a welcome addition to community social events where his presence always contributed to the cheerfulness of the atmosphere. Among his pleasant relaxations was bridge, which he played with considerable ability. Surviving are his wife, the former Ellen Riddell; a son Roy of Perry's Corners; daughters Mrs. G. D. Harmer (Marjorie) of Plattsville and Mrs. Roland Brighton (Isobel) of Perry's Corners, and a sister Mrs. A. e. chamberlain (Helen) of Montreal. Five grandchildren also survive. Resting at Coutts Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrews St., Galt. Funeral arrangements are being completed.

The death occurred very suddenly on Thursday evening of Walter Robson, one of Ayr's most prominent citizens, in his 75th year. He had been bothered with asthma for many years and it was during an acute attack of this trouble that he passed away. The news of his death came as a distinct shock to the whole community and once more emphasized the old proverb, "In the midst of life we are in death." He was born just north of the village on the farm now occupied by Mrs. J. L. Robson and when a young man took u farming in the Township of Blenheim. He later moved to Washington where he resided for 10 or 15 years, coming to Ayr about 6 years ago. For the past 30 years he had been engaged in the cattle business and was successful to such an extent that he became known throughout Western Ontario as one of the Province's foremost dealers. At one time he was a heavy exporter but latterly continued his offerings to the Toronto and Buffalo markets. He was one of the first cattlemen in the Province to graze heavy export stock and subsequently each summer it had been his custom to engage from 400 to 600 acres of land on which he pastured from 200 to 600 head of cattle. In religion he was a Presbyterian, being a member of Knox United Church, and in politics a life-long Liberal. Besides his wife, whose maiden name was Helen Wakefield, he is survived by three daughters and one son, as follows: Mrs. A.Y. Hall, Toronto; Mrs. Bourchier, Windsor; Mrs. McNally, Niagara Falls and Wakefield of Ayr.
