He was born in Kitchener and was retired from Burns Foods where he was employed for 31 years; a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Waterloo, the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 530, Waterloo and served overseas in the Second World War. Son of the late Robert and Amelia Bartley. Husband of the former Ruth Goodwin; father of Ruth Marie Ernst and her husband George of Elmira and Barbara Goebel and her husband Ronald of Cambridge; brother of Jack and his wife Midge, Marie Freiburger, Myrtle Cooper and her husband George, Olive King and her husband Ernest, all of Kitchener. Grandfather of four grandchildren, Robert and Jason Ernst, Cathy and Bradley Goebel. Predeceased by three brothers, Ward, Stewart and Bruce and two sisters, Eileen and Hazel.     ROBERT JAMES BARTLEY - Suffering a cerebral hemorrhage while loading freight at the Canadian Blower and Forge Company Saturday afternoon. Robert James Bartley, 50, of 221 Lancaster Street, East, was rushed to St. Mary's Hospital where he died two hours later. The late Mr. Bartley was born in Cartwright Township, Ontario, a son of the late Robert J. Bartley and Anna Jane Todsuf. He came to Kitchener in 1909. Two years later he married Amelia Opperhauser. Mr. Bartley operated the Stoner Taxi Company and the Bartley Cartage. He attended St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. Surviving are his wife, five sons, Pte. Karl of London and Jack, Ward, Stewart and Bruce of Kitchener, and five daughters, Mrs. Roy Freiberger and Mrs. Stan Freiberger of Kitchener, Mrs. Arnold Wettlaufer of Goderich and Miss Myrtle and Miss Olive at home. The body was removed from the Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home yesterday to the Residence. A private funeral service will be held at the residence Tuesday at two o'clock and a public service will be held at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church at 2: 30 pm with Dr. John Schmieder officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery.

    Mrs. Robert Bartley, 73. of 214 Union St. E., Waterloo, died today at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness.

    She was the former Amelia Hauser. the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hoppert Hauser of Woolwich Township.

    Mrs. Bartley lived in the Kitchener area for the past 53 years,and was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.

    She was married in 1910, and her husband died in 1942.

    Surviving are five sons, Karl of Waterloo, Jack Ward, Stewart and Bruce of Kitchener; four daughters.. Mrs. Roy (Marie) Freiburger, Mrs. Ross (Hazel) McCormick, George (Myrtle) Cooper and Mrs. Ernest (Olive) King all of Kitchener; four sisters. Mrs. Henry (Dora) Brox of Grand Ledge, Mich., Mrs. John (May) Brox of Preston. Mrs. Jack (Selina) Draves and Mrs. Chris (Alvin) Yaeger of Kitchener; 20 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. One daughter and one sister predeceased her.

    The body will be at the Schreiter Sandrock Funeral Home until 1 p.m. Saturday when removal will be made to St. Matthew's Church Chapel for service at 2 p.m. Rev. F. W. Zinck will officiate and burial will be In St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery

    J. Frederick Goodwin

    The funeral of J. Frederick Goodwin, 67, of 14 Young St. West, Waterloo, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Heidelberg, by Rev. Howard Gum, followed by burial in Heidelberg Lutheran Cemetery.

    Mr. Goodwin died Saturday in K-W Hospital after an illness of a few weeks.

    The body is at the Edward R. Good Funeral Home where members of the Moose Lodge will hold a service at 8:30 p.m. today. Removal will be made to the church at noon Tuesday.

    Mr. Goodwin was a native of Glen Allan and a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gillis Goodwin. He lived in the St. Clements area before coming to Waterloo 17 years ago.

    He was employed by B. F. Goodrich Canada Ltd. for 35 years until his retirement 10 years ago, and for the past eight years he was canteen steward at the Waterloo branch of the Canadian Legion.

    Mr. Goodwin served overseas with the 118th Battalion in the First World War and was a member of Kitchener and Waterloo Legion branches. He was also a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Heidelberg, and the Moose Lodge.

    Surviving are his wife, the former Winnifred Campbell; two sons, LeRoy of Simcoe and Lorne of Waterloo; three daughters, Mrs. Floyd (Marguerite) Kocher of Heidelberg, Mrs. Karl (Ruth) Bartley and Mrs. Ray (Shirley) Gascho of Waterloo; five brothers, William of Elmira, Hardie of Heidelberg, Ernest of Waterloo, Clayton and Ervin of Kitchener; a sister, Mrs. Frederick (Margaret) Fries of Bridgeport, and 11 grandchildren. Two brothers and one sister predeceased him.

    James married Winnifred "Win" Campbell 19 Dec 1919, London, Middlesex, Ontario, Canada.     Mrs. Goodwin was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Waterloo, a life member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary Of the Waterloo Legion, Branch 530 and a member of the Women of the Moose, Kitchener chapter 634.

    Survived by two sons, LeRoy of Delhi and Lorne of Guelph and three daughters, Ruth (Mrs. Karl Bartley), Shirley (Mrs. Ray Gascho) and Mrs. Marguerite Kocher, all of Waterloo; sister of Charles of Delta. B.C. She is also survived :by nine . grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

    Predeceased by her husband, Frederick in 1963 and by, one sister, Ruth Waugh. Mrs. Goodwin's family will receive friends at the Edward Good Funeral Home, 171 King St. S. Waterloo, from 7-9 p. m. on Saturday and Sunday.

    A service conducted by the Women of the Moose, Kitchener Chapter 634, will .be held at the funeral home at 7 p. m. Sunday, followed by Service conducted by the Women's Auxiliary of the Waterloo Legion, Branch 530, will be held at the funeral home, Sunday at 8 p.m.

    At noon on Monday,. removal. will be made to St: John's Lutheran Church for the funeral service at 2 p.m. (Monday), with Rev. Jack Dressler officiating. Internment to follow in St: Peter's. Lutheran cemetery, Heidelberg.

    Henry S. Oppertshauser, 75, died at his residence, 32 Pequegnat Avenue, early today. He was born in Woolwich Township, on May 9, 1866, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Oppertshauser. In 1890, in New Hamburg, he married Elizabeth Schaefer who predeceased him one year ago.

    Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Robert Bartley, Mrs. J. Draves and Mrs. C. Yager of Kitchener, Mrs. Henry Brox of Detroit, and Mrs. John Brox of Sunnyside. Twenty-five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.

    Funeral service will be held from the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. Yager, 63 Bingeman Street, on Sunday at 2 pm to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church for service at 2: 30 pm. Interment will be made in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery. Dr. John Schmieder will officiate. Remains are resting at the Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home until Saturday at 6 pm when they will be removed to the residence of his daughter.

    Mrs. Henry S. Oppertshauser, 71, of 43 Dingman street, died at her home early today after two weeks illness following a stroke. Born in Pilkerton, Nickol township, Mrs. Oppertshauser was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Valentine Schafer. She married Mr. Oppertshauser July 7, 1890 in New Hamburg, and the couple came to his city 18 years ago. She attended St. Matthew's Lutheran church.

    Surviving. in addition to husband are, five daughters, Mrs. Robert J. Bartley, Mrs. John E. Draves, and Mrs. Christian Yager, all of Kitchener, Mrs. Henry Brox of Detroit. Mich., and Mrs. John Brox of Sunnyside one brother, Fred Schafer of Olds, Alta., one sister, Mrs. Catherine Maurer of Hanover 25, grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

    Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at two o'clock from her late residence to St. Matthew's church at .2.30. Internent will be In St, Peter's Lutheran Cemetery. Remains are resting at Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home until seven o'clock tonight.

    ELMIRA, Jan 17 - Mrs. Alice Goodwin, 75, formerly of Elmira, died yesterday at Hamilton after a lengthy illness. She was the widow of Gilllis Goodwin who died in 1913 near Glen Allan. She had been a resident of Glen Alan until her husband's death when she moved to Elmira. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Franklin of near Glen Allan and was a former member of Wesley United Church, Elmira.

    Surviving are eight sons: Allen, Kitchener; William, Elmira; Fred, Waterloo; Harlie, Heidelberg; Clayton, Kitchener; Loman, Heidelberg; Ernie, Waterloo; and Irvin, Winterbourne; and one daughter, Mrs. Fred Fries of Bridgeport. One daughter predeceased her in 1947. She also is survived by three sisters, Mrs. John Klein, and Mrs. Herb Mawhinney, Elmira, and Mrs. Walter Fleet, Palmerston, and five brothers, James Franklin, Palmerston; John of Clifford; William, Elmira; Robert, Glen Allen, and Loman, Bridgeport. There are 58 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. The body is resting at the Dreisinger Funeral Chapel where the funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 pm, Rev. W.M.B. Metcalfe will officiate. Interment will be made in the Elmira Cemetery.
