    Habel, Kenneth Orin - Peacefully, on Tuesday, June 27, 1989, at his residence, Kenneth Habel, in his 60th year. Beloved husband of Susan (nee Nihls); loving father of Brenda and Rodger Kaster of New Dundee, Patricia and Hugh Armstrong of Cambridge, Janice and Richard Stemmler of Kitchener and Laura and Tony Moreira of Kitchener. "Pappa" will be sadly missed by Lorrie, Sarah, Daniel, Jennifer, Amanda and Jeremy. Son of Fanny Gooding and the late Lorne Habel. Brother to Earl Habel of Bright and Helen Hewitt of the West Coast. He was a turkey farmer in Ayr for 14 years and worked part time for several years for the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. He moved to Kitchener in 1975 and became owner/operator of United Taxi for the past 13 years. The family will receive friends at the Westmount Funeral Chapel, 1001 Ottawa St. S. at Westmont Road), Kitchener, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm today (Thursday). Funeral service in the chapel on Friday at 11 am, Rev. Darrell Jantzi will officiate. Interment Wilmot Centre Cemetery.

    Habel, Lorne, son of the late Conrad and Maggie (Shantz) Habel, was born at Wilmot Center, Ont., 53 years ago; died at his home in New Hamburg on Feb. 9, 1956, after a long illness. Several months before his death he realized his need of cleansing from sin and accepted Christ as his Saviour. He was instructed in the Word, baptized, and received into fellowship of the Mennonite Church. During those last weeks of his life he testified of the great grace of God and gave evidence of a transformed life. Surviving are his wife, the former Fanny Gooding, 2 sons, Kenneth and Earl, one daughter, Helen, all of New Hamburg; 3 brothers, Clinton, Kitchener, Ont.; Harry, Buffalo, N. Y.; and Roy, Plattsville; one sister, Mrs. Wallace Thibideau, Ayr, Ont., and 2 grandchildren. Funeral services held on Feb. 13 at Geiger Mennonite church were in charge of Moses H. Roth, assisted by C. C. Cressman. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.

    Mrs. Fannie Habel

    Fannie (Gooding) Habel passed away peacefully at Trinity Village Care Centre in Kitchener on Saturday, April 3rd, 1999. She was in her 93rd year.

    Fannie was the daughter of the late Melissa Fried and Albert Gooding. She was employed as a cook at Goudies Department Store and at Wilfrid Laurier University. She was noted for her excellent soups.

    Beloved wife of the late Lorne Habel (1956). Dear mother of Helen Hewitt of Whitehorse, Yukon, Earl and his wife Shirley of RR 3, Bright and a daughter-in-law, Susan Habel. Predeceased by a son, Kenneth (1989). Lovingly remembered by ten grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. Survived by a dear sister, Isabel Gooding and sisters-in-law, LaVona Gooding and Mary Habel of Kitchener, Beatrice Habel of Plattsville. She was predeceased by a grand-daughter in infancy; sisters Eleanor in infancy, Mabel and her husband Gordon Bullock, Pearl and her husband Leighton Shantz; also brothers Leonard and his wife Winnie Gooding and Sherwood Gooding.

    Family and friends were received at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home where funeral and service was conducted in the chapel on Tuesday, April 6th. Rev. Melvin Otterbein officiated. Interment in Wilmot Mennonite Church Cemetery.

    Death of Conrad Habel

    Mr. Conrad Habel, a well known and highly esteemed farmer of this district, passed away on Wednesday morning at the age of 53 years, 1 month and 20 days. He had been ill only a few days and his death came as a shock to his many friends. The deceased was born and raised in North Easthope. He was married 24 years ago to Maggie Shantz and moved onto a farm at Wilmot Centre. About 7 years ago he moved onto his present farm southeast of Haysville. He is survived by his wife, four sons and one daughter, Clinton, Lorne, Harry, Marion and Roy, all at home. He is also survived by 4 brothers and 1 sister, Chris, of Baden, Jacob of Sebastopol, Wm. Of Kitchener, Henry of Kansas City, Mrs. Jacob Miller, Baden. The funeral will be held on Saturday afternoon to Geiger's Church and Cemetery.

    Habel - Maggie, eldest daughter of the late Solomon and Mary Anne (Hostetler) Shantz, was born in Waterloo Co., Ont., April 9, 1878; died at her home in Wilmot, Mar. 21, 1938; aged 59 y. 11 m. 12 d. Dec. 8, 1897, she was united in marriage to Conrad Habel who predeceased her over 16 years ago. Surviving are 4 sons and 1 daughter (Clinton of Baden, Lorne of Wilmot, Harry of Buffalo, Roy of Princeton, and Marion - Mrs. Wallace Thibideau) on the homestead, 11 grandchildren, 2 brothers and 4 sisters, and many other relatives and friends. One son died in infancy. Sister Habel accepted Christ in her youth and was a faithful member of the Mennonite Church at Geigers for 43 years, where her presence and help will be missed, but she has gone to be with her Lord, which is better. She had been in failing health for a few years, but a paralytic stroke was the immediate cause of her death. The funeral services were held March 24 from her home to Geiger's Mennonite Church in Charge of Bros. Moses H. Roth, assisted by the brethren C.C. Cressman and Jonas Snider. Text, Heb. 9: 27. She was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.
