    Matthews, C. St. J. Kenneth Roy (Ken) - Suddenly, at St. Mary's Hospital, on Friday, June 2, 1989, Ken Matthews, in his 82nd year, formerly of RR 2, Petersburg. Loving husband of Edith; cherished father of Dale and his wife Joyce of Toronto and Karen and her husband James Reid of Lindsay; beloved grandfather of Brent and his wife Eva of Port Perry and Dawn Matthews of Toronto. Also survived by his aunt, Mollye Horton of Kitchener. Mr. Matthews was a Commander in the order of St. John; a lifetime member of the Western Horse Association of Ontario; member of the Royal City Lodge of Perfection A and ASR and the Wilmot Lodge No. 318, AF and AM. The family will receive friends at the Westmount Funeral Chapel, 1001 Ottawa St. S. (at Westmount Road), Kitchener, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Sunday. Transfer will be made to St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mannheim, on Monday at 12: 30 pm, with service and committal to follow at 2 pm, Rev. Doug Reble will officiate. As expressions of sympathy, memorial considerations may be made to the St. John Ambulance, K-W Branch or to St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mannheim.

    MATTHEWS, C. St. J. Edith - With her family by her side, at Heritage House in St. Jacobs, on Saturday, January 17, 2004 in her 95th year. Loving and cherished mother of Dale (Joyed) and Karen (Jim Reid), Survived by grandchildren, Brent (Eva) of Port Perry, Dawn (Jim Doerr) of Ingersoll; great-grandchildren, Melanie, Samantha and Nolan and brother, Ralph C. Brighton. Predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Matthews (1989); sister, Mildred Beilstein and niece, Arlene Dessler. Edith was a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mannheim and a Commander in the Order of St. John. As a volunteer of the K-W Branch of St. John Ambulance, she taught Home Nursing and First Aid to countless people. A founding member of the K-W Nursing Division of St. John and an original member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Kitchener. A special heartfelt thank you to all the staff of Heritage House and Dr. George Berrigan for the wonderful and loving care provided to Edith. Friends and family will be received at Westmount Funeral Chapel, 1001 Ottawa Street South (at Westmount Rd.) 743-8900, today (Monday) from 7-9 pm and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1000 Knechtel Place, Mannheim on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at 11 am.     Francis A. Matthews - Francis Abram Matthews of 105 Cedar St. S., died at the K-W Hospital today. He was 88. A native of Acton, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Matthews. His wife, the former Mabel Siebert, died in 1961. Mr. Matthews came to the Twin Cities in 1888. In 1961 he retired from John Forsyth Co. of Waterloo where he had worked for 12 years. Earlier he worked for 35 years with Cluett Peabody and Co. of Canada Ltd. Mr. Matthews was a member of the United Church of Canada and the Twin City Lodge 509, Masonic Lodge; a charter and life member of the Kitchener Musical Association and a member of the 108th Regiment Band. He is survived by one son, Kenneth Roy of Kitchener; one brother, Ormond of Kitchener; three sisters, Mrs. William (Ethel) Stericker of Toronto and Mrs. Frank (Florence) Metcalfe and Mrs. William (Irene) Edwards of Kitchener; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by three sisters. The body is at the Keffer Funeral Home where Rev. John H. Patterson will conduct a service at 2 pm, Wednesday. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

    Mrs. Frank A. Matthews

    Mrs. Frank A. Matthews, 105 Cedar St. South died Monday at K-W Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was 78.

    The former Mabel L. Seibert, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Seibert. Mrs. Matthews lived in Kitchener all her life and was a member of the Christian Science Church.

    Surviving are her husband, whom she married in Kitchener in 1905, a son Kenneth of Kitchener, four brothers, Albert Seibert of Detroit, Shannon of Vancouver, Nelson and Clarence of Kitchener; five sisters, Mrs. Florence Van Buren of Chicago, Mrs. Earl Hill of Toronto, Mrs. Orville Horton of Los Angeles, Mrs. Herbert Martin and Mrs. Dorothy Brash of Kitchener, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

    The body is at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home where service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Donations to the Arthritis and Rheumatism Society will be accepted as expressions of sympathy.

    Mrs. Fred Brighton - Mrs. Fred Brighton, 79, of 58 DeKay St. died today at her home following a lengthy illness. Born in Germany, she was the former Annie M. Schultz, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Schultz. She had resided in Kitchener for more than 75 years and was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Mrs. Brighton was a member of the Friendship Circle and the Lutheran Church Women. Her husband died in 1918.

    Surviving are one son, Ralph of Elmwood; two daughters, Mrs. Nelson (Mildred) Bellstein and Mrs. Kenneth (Edith) Matthews, both of Kitchener; two brothers, Arthur Schultz of Guelph and Harry Schulz of Kitchener; one sister, Mrs. Edith Froelich of Kitchener; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. Bertha Nicholson, predeceased her in 1963.

    Edward Matthews - Following an illness of three months, Edward Matthews, age 87 years, a retired teamster, passed away at 6 o'clock this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William Boettger, 105 Elgin Street. Mr. Matthews was born in Acton, July 18, 1845, a son of Abram Matthews and Diana Nichlin. He was a member of Trinity Untied Church. His wife predeceased him in May, 1926. Two sons, Frank and Ormand D., both of this city, six daughters, Mrs. Ralph Akins, Mrs. R.T. Heath, both of Guelph, Mrs. Wm. Boettger, Mrs. Frank Metcalfe and Mrs. W.G. Edwards, of Kitchener, survive with one sister, Mrs. Hannah Reynolds of Lansing, Mich., and 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon with servicers at the residence, 105 Elgin Street, at 3 o'clock, Rev. Clarke Logan officiating and interment in Mount Hope Cemetery.

    Frank Seibert Passes Away

    The death of a well-known resident of Kitchener occurred on Sunday when Mr. Frank Seibert passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. Gabel, Breslau Road. The late Mr. Seibert was sixty-two years of age and was a life-long resident, having been born in Bridgeport. The funeral will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 2: 30 and will be private.

    The New Fire Brigade

    The new fire brigade is composed of the following members:- Frank Seibert, chief; Daniel Boettger, driver; Michael Massell, John Treusch, Charles Koehn,
    Eugen Hirteis, Otto Koehn, John W. Rhodes, Isaak Dickmann, Adam Denges, Michael Heintzmann, Leander Klaehn, John H. Mayer, and Henry Tiehle.

    The chief is responsible for his underlings and has full authority over them. There were 23 applications on hand for the vacant positions. The members of the new fire brigade are not allowed to drink beer in the firehall. This is a commendable regulation.

    Mrs. Sarah Seibert

    The death of Mrs. Sarah Seibert occurred on Saturday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Earl S. Hill, 49 West Avenue South, Hamilton, following an illness of six months. Mrs. Seibert aged 67 years. She was born in Kitterminster, Staffordshire, England, in the year 1859, and came to the United States at the age of nine. After living there for a short time, she came to Canada and lived on the farm at the head of Lancaster St. Hill Street is situated on part of the farm. In 1878 she was married to the late Franklin Seibert, who predeceased her in 1920. There were sixteen children born to this union, two of whom, Gordon and William, died I their infancy. The late Mrs. William Gabel, who died in May 1925, was also a daughter. The late Mrs. Seibert was possessed of a genial disposition and was beloved by a wide circle of friends and acquaintances who deeply mourn her passing. She is survived by seven sons, Oliver, Edwin, Franklin, Nelson and Clarence of this city, Albert of Detroit, Mich., and Shannon of Hamilton, and six daughters, Mrs. Frank Matthews, 105 South Cedar St., Mrs. Herbert Martin, matron of the Old People's Home, Mrs. Roy Van Buren of Waterdown, N.Y., Mrs. E.S. Hill, Hamilton, Miss Marguerite of Hamilton, and Miss Dorothy of this city. The funeral will be held from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Matthews, 105 South Cedar Street, on Tuesday at 2 o'clock where services will be conducted to the Bridgeport cemetery where interment will be made.

    Mrs. Ernestine Schultz - Death of Mrs. Ernestine Schultz occurred yesterday at her residence at 163 Waterloo St. She was 76 years old, succumbing after an illness of six weeks. A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Draeger, she was born on Sept. 25, 1869, in Germany, coming to Kitchener some 60 years ago. She attended St. Peter's Lutheran Church and was a member of the Ladies' Aid Society and the mutual Aid Society of the church. Her husband, Frederick Schultz, died 13 years ago. Surviving are two sons, Arthur F. Schultz and Harry H. Schultz, both of this city; three daughters, Mrs. Edna Froelich, Mrs. Annie Brighton and Mrs. Charles Nicholson, all of this city, two brothers, Gustav Draeger of this city and Albert of Athabasca, Alta., and one sister, Mrs. Peter Binkley of Waterloo. There are nine grandchildren. The funeral will be held tomorrow from the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home at 2 pm with interment in the Mount Hope Cemetery. Rev. A. W. Lutz will officiate. Remains are resting at the funeral home.
