Beloved husband of Verna Hilborn and dear father of Brian, Kenneth and Colin of Cambridge, Keith and his wife Maria of Clyde, Susan and her husband Brad Richards, Sherry and her husband James Buckan of Cambridge. Loving grandfather of Shawn, Shannon, Hollie, Jillian and Spencer Peer, Charlene and Oriel Buckan. Also survived by three sisters, Margaret (Mrs. Arthur Gibbons) of Guelph, Mrs. Joyce Sugrue of Ottawa, Evelyn (Mrs. Don Brown) of Trenton and sister-in-law, Gladys Peer of Guelph. Predeceased by one granddaughter, Amanda; two brothers, William and Leonard; one sister, Bertha. Mr. Peer was born in Guelph, a resident of Cambridge for 38 years, employed at Inglis Ltd., of Cambridge and a member of the Preston Royal Canadian Legion Branch 126. Friends will be received at the Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Rd., Cambridge, today (Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service at the funeral home, Saturday, at 1: 30 p.m. Interment in Parklawn cemetery.

    With sadness and heavy hearts the family of Verna Peer, announces her passing at the age of 80, on April 23, 2015, in Cambridge. Now in the arms of her soulmate, Don, who predeceased her in 1991 and her son, Colin (2003). Loving and devoted mother to Brian, Ken (Patti), Keith (Maria), Sherry (James) and Susan (Brad). Dearest grandmother to thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Verna will forever remain in the hearts of her brother, George, sisters, Beatrice and Marion, friends and family. A Visitation will be held at Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Road, Cambridge (519-653-3251) on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, from 1: 00 p.m., to 1: 45 p.m. A Funeral Service will follow at the funeral home at 2 p.m.

    Thomas Hilborn - Preston -

    Thomas Hilborn, 76, a prominent Waterloo county resident, died at St. Mary's Hospital on Tuesday. He was the last surviving member of the John H. Hilborn family whose homestead was in the vicinity of Hagey's church, near Preston. Mr. Hilborn lived on a farm in Waterloo Township all his life except for a period of nine years when he was employed with Clare Brothers at Preston. In recent years he lived retired on a farm south of Pine Hill school. His wife predeceased him about six months. The late Mr. and Mrs. Hilborn celebrated their golden wedding in November, 1937. They were married at the Lutheran parsonage in Preston. His predeceased wife was the former Mary Louisa Coons of Holland Township, Gery County. Mr. Hilborn was a member of the United Brethren Church, Freeport. Surviving are three sons, Walter of Ogdensburg, N.Y., John and Percy of the Kitchener-Preston highway, a daughter, Mrs. Jack Allison of Toronto, ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The funeral was held at the Gordon Pass Funeral Home, Preston, where a memorial service was held on Thursday. Interment in Hagey's cemetery.
