    BECHTEL, Dennis Ray

    Passed away peacefully, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, February 10, 2010, in his 57th year. Dennis was a graduate of Rockway Mennonite Collegiate and took Grade 13 at Grand River Collegiate. He was employed for a time at Markle's Potatoes for a few years, and later at a Toronto steel fabrication plant and late at Compost Sod Farms. He enjoyed outdoors rather than city occupations. He is survived by his father, Orville Bechtel and brother Murray Bechtel (Debbie) of Waterloo, and sisters Janice Schultz (Bruce) of Cambridge and Connie Anthony (Mel) of Richmond, B.C. Dennis enjoyed music and travelled with a choir from Rockway Mennonite and also sang in the choir at Wanner Mennonite Church, where he was a member. He was predeceased by his mother, Mary Bechtel in 2007. Dennis' family will welcome friends at Lounsbury Funeral Home, 1766 Franklin Boulevard, Cambridge on Thursday, February 18th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., with funeral services at Wanner Mennonite Church on February 19th at 11 a.m., officiated by Pastor Don Penner.

    BECHTEL, Clayton Orville (February 5, 1923 - March 23, 2014)

    Our Dad told us he was "just waiting for Jesus" and on Sunday, March 23rd, Jesus reached down and gently released him of all pain and suffering. Jesus took his hand and guided him to his heavenly home, there waiting for him was his beloved wife, Mary (Horst) and his oldest son Dennis Ray. Left behind here on earth to miss him dearly are his children, Janice Schultz (Bruce) of Cambridge, Murray Bechtel (Diana) of Waterloo, and Connie Anthony (Mel) of Richmond, B.C. He was a proud grandfather of thirteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his brother Lester Bechtel. Orville spent many years operating a dairy farm near Breslau, same farm he was born and raised on, before retiring to Fairview, twenty-four years ago. He was a lifetime member of Wanner Mennonite Church. Orville was predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth and Milton, brothers Elton and Roy and sister Hilda. His family would like to thank the Fairview nursing staff, for all their wonderful care and support. Orville's family will welcome friends at the Fairview Auditorium, 515 Langs Drive, Cambridge on Friday, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will follow in the auditorium on Saturday morning, at 11 a.m.

    BECHTEL, Mary (Horst) - Passed away suddenly, at Fairview Mennonite Home, as a result of a heart attack on Friday, July 13, 2007, in her 85th year. Loving wife of Orville Bechtel for 55 years. Devoted mother to Dennis Bechtel, Janice Schultz (Bruce) of Cambridge, Murray Bechtel (Debbie Howe) of Waterloo, and Connie Anthony (Mel) of Richmond, B.C. Survived by her sisters Selina of St. Jacobs, Lena Nafziger (Ken) of Elora and brother Nelson Horst of St. Jacobs. Grandmother to Dennis, Tammie, Mary, Michael, A.J., Linsey, Beau, Catlin, Heather, Joel and Meghan; great-grandmother to Clayton, Jonny, Jessica, Courtney, Nicki, Sierra, James, Alanah, and Brayden. Predeceased by her parents, John L. and Mary (Frey) Horst and sister, Hettie Shoemaker, and brothers, Tilman, Cleason, Martin and Levi. Hilda May in infancy; a grandson, John and one brother. Norman. Surviving are four sons, Elton, Orville and Lester, all of RR 32, Cambridge and Roy of Winnipeg, Man. Eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive. Mr. Bechtel remained a member of Wanner Mennonite Church, Cambridge a. attended First Mennonite Church. Kitchener; he was an active participant in the Men's Bible Class at First Mennonite Church. Wife of, Milton Bechtel; mother of Elton, Orville and Lester all of Route 2, Preston and Roy of Winnipeg Man.; sister of Noah Ziegler of Route 1.     Last surviving member of the Joseph B. Bechtel family of 10 children, John M. Bechtel of Bloomingdale, passed away today, at St. Mary’s Hospital, after a brief illness, in his 70 year. Mr. Bechtel, had farmed on the old Bechtel homestead, near Kossuth, for many years prior to 1919, when he moved to Bloomingdale, where he has lived ever since. He attended, Snyder Mennonite Church, Bloomingdale. Surviving are his wife and two sons, Milton A. Bechtel, Kossuth and Norman A. Bechtel, Cobalt, Ont. and 7 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Mrs. Mary Eby of this city, only last Monday. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon, from his late home, Bloomingdale, at 2 o’clock, to the Wanner Mennonite church near Hespeler, for servives at 3 p.m. Interment will take place, in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. Howard Stevanus, Bloomingdale, will be in charge. The remains will be resting at Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, Kitchener, until 3 o’clock, Saturday afternoon.

    Mrs. Elizabeth Bechtel

    Aged 93, died Monday, September 2, at Martin's rest home, after a brief illness. Born Dec. 4, 1869, she was a daughter of the late Mr. And Mrs. Daniel Stumpf. she lived in Bloomingdale and Kossuth, before moving to Elmira, three years ago. She was a member of Wanner Mennonite Church and the Ladies Aid Society of the church. Her husband, John M. Bechtel, died in 1935. Surviving are two sons, Milton and Norman of Kitchener; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of the Daniel Stumpf family. The body will be at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, Kitchener, then to Wanner Mennonite Church, Hespeler, for the funeral at 2: 30 p.m., Thursday. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

    Horst.-Tilman, the last one of a family of 7 children born to David and Magdalena (Martin) Horst, was born in Waterloo Co., Ont., Dec. 9, 1859; died March 2, 1936; aged 76 y. 2 m. 22 d. He was united in marriage to Hettie Lichty. To this union were born 2 sons and 3 daughters. His wife answered death's call June 12, 1922. He was a member of the St. Jacobs Mennonite Church and showed a living testimony of faith in Christ Jesus. Those left to mourn his departure are his children-Susanna (Mrs. Amos Brubacher), Lydiann, Levi. John, Hettie (wife of the late Jonas Bauman); also 19 grandchildren and many relatives and friends. He was failing fast the last few months and on Monday, while walking to the dinner table, the spirit took its flight. Funeral services were held March 5, at the St. Jacobs Mennonite Church conducted by Urias Martin and O. D. Snider. Interment in the Conestoga Cemetery.

    Horst.--Hettie (Lichty) Horst, wife of Tilman Horst, was born in Waterloo Co., Ont., July 3, 1859; died June 12, 1922; aged 62 y. 11 m. 9 d. She suffered much but bore it patiently. She was a member of the Mennonite Church for many years, being faithful to the end. She is survived by her husband two brothers and the following children: Susanna (Mrs. Amos Brubacher) Lydia Ann, Levi, John, and Hettie (Mrs. John Bauman).
