    Notes:

    Earl C. Shiry of 385 St Leger St. died Wednesday at K-W Hospital following a heart attack. He was 76. Born in Kitchener, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Shiry. He retired in 1963 from the maintenance department at K-W Hospital after 19 years. He had formerly worked at Kaufman's Footwear Ltd. He attended St. Timothy United Church. He served in the First World War with the 118th Battalion. He was an active hockey player in his youth and played for the Kitchener Union Jacks. He was predeceased by one brother, Kenneth. Surviving are his wife, the former Gertrude (Dolly) Lang, whom he married in 1916; one son, Robert of Kitchener; two daughters, Mrs. David (Dorothy) Ratz of Kitchener and Mrs. George (Billie) Rumney of Toronto; one brother, Lloyd of Kitchener; two sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Laura) Slumkoski of Kitchener and Mrs. George (Ellen) Verary of Hamilton; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The body will be at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home after noon Friday and where service will be conducted Saturday at 2 pm by Dr. E. E. Hallman. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Donations to the Kitchener Branch of the Canadian Red Cross Society will be accepted as expressions of sympathy.

    SHIRY, Mrs. Gertrude (Earl) - Peacefully, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, on Sunday, March 22, 1987, Gertrude (Dolly) Catherine Lang, age 91 years, formerly of 385 St. Leger St., Kitchener. Mrs. Shiry was a member of Benton St. Baptist Church. Beloved wife of the late Earl C. Shiry who predeceased her in 1971; dear mother of Mrs. Dorothy Ratz and Billie (Mrs. George Rumney), Robert and his wife Marcy, all of Kitchener; sister of Leonard Lang of Waterloo, Mildred (Mrs. Wilfred Hamacher) of St. Clements and Delores (Mrs. Ed Gaiser) of Waterloo. Lovingly remembered by her nine grandchildren, Jill (Mrs. Ed Lewis), Tom, Dan and Jeff Anderson, Susan (Mrs. Ron Mark) and David Ratz, Debra, Bob and Brenda Shiry and her eight great-grandchildren, Cheryl, Jennie, Kathleen, Wesley, Charles, Laura, Jaclyn and Tim. Predeceased by her parents; three sisters, Mrs. Hazel Wuest, Mrs. Irene Rickert and Mrs. Lorraine Heintzman and son-in-law, David Ratz on March 12, 1987. A private family service was held in the Ratz-Bechtel Chapel, 621 King St. W., Kitchener, on Tuesday (today). Rev. James Reese and Rev. Vern Black officiated. Interment was in Woodland cemetery.

    ALBERT LANG

    The death occurred at the K-W Hospital yesterday, Feb. 10th of Albert B. Lang, aged 60 years. He is survived by his wife, formerly Minnie Sherein, and six children, the latter all under age. There survives also three daughters by his first marriage, Mrs. M.B. Rickert, Mrs. J. H. Wuest and Mrs. E.C. Shiry, all of this city. Two brothers also survive, Rev. Herman Lang of Ashtabula, Ohio. Elwin N. Lang of New Kensington Pa., and two sisters, Mrs. (Rev.) W.A. Schoen and Mrs. W. T. Haigh, of New Kensington, Pa. The funeral will take place on Saturday afternoon at 2: 30 p.m. from the residence of J. H. Wuest, 161 Queen St. North to Mount Hope Cemetery.

    [It is to be noted that Albert is buried in an unmarked grave beside his two sons, Irwin and Joseph. Albert's plot is beside his Mother Elisabetha Boehmer Lang. Grave site confirmed Sept. 22 2003. Bev Moulton Albert Lang had a store called Raymond's Sewing Machines. This was located on Benton St. Berlin (Kitchener), beside Dunke's Grocery Store. He was a agent for Raymond's Sewing machines, he also sold sheet music and piano's. Albert played the organ for the silent movies in Berlin.]

    Shantz
    .--Abraham C. Shantz died at this home in Breslau on April 25, 1922; aged 77 y. 11 m. 17 d. In 1866 he was united in marriage with Catharine Goetz, who survives. There are left to mourn with the wife and mother, 9 children, 32 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren. Brother Schantz united with the Mennonite Church in early life, in which faith he left this world to meet his Maker. He left many evidences that he met his Savior in peace. The funeral services were held on the 27th in charge of Brethren J. S. Woolner and Oscar Burkholder. Text, I Cor. 15: 54.

On Feb. 26, 1866, she was united in marriage with Abram C. Shantz, who predeceased her 11 years. To this union were born 11 children, 2 sons (Ephraim and Isaac) having died in childhood. In early life she accepted Christ as her Savior and joined the Mennonite Church in which fellowship she remained until death. She leaves 4 sons (Joseph of Breslau, Irvin and Nelson of Kitchener, and Abram of Breslau Road), 5 daughters (Mrs. J. W. Schiedel of Breslau, Mrs. John Shiry of Kitchener, Mrs. Dan Brox of Spruce Grove, Alta., Mrs. Joel Gole, Dunrankin, Ont., Mrs. Peter Martin, Breslau Road), 1 brother (Frank Goetz, Brown City, Mich.), 35 grandchildren, and 40 great-grandchildren. The funeral was held Jan. 5 from the home of her son, Irvin, to the Cressman Mennonite Church, Breslau, for services and burial in adjoining cemetery. Funeral service conducted by Bro.     MRS PETER LANG PASSES AWAY:

    One of Berlin's esteemed residents, Mrs. Peter Lang, nee Elizabetha Boehmer, passed away at her home, 295 King Street, on Saturday in her 69th year after suffering for a period extending over fully 25 years. She bore her affication with a true Christian fortitude. She was a faithful member of the Benton Street Baptist Church. Mr. and Mrs. Lang were for a term of years residents in Rochester, but returned to Berlin about three years ago. The deceased is survived by a husband and five children, Mrs. (Rev) Schoen of Topeka, Kansas, Rev. Herman Lang, of Salem Ohio, Mrs. W. T. Haigh, Albert and Winnie at home. The surviving brothers are Messrs. August, Charles, Philip and Reinhardt Boehmer, all of Berlin. The funeral took place this afternoon from the residence to Mount Hope Cemetery followed by a service at the Benton Street Baptist Church.
