MATTHEWS, Ormond D. - At the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital, on Saturday, Sept. 22, 1973, following a brief illness, Ormond D. Matthews, a resident of Green Gables Manor and formerly of Chapel St., aged 88 years; born in Acton, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Matthews. Mr. Matthews had been a resident of the Twin Cities for the past 85 years, a member of Trinity United Church and had been employed with the postal service in Kitchener for 37 years; he retired in 1949. Husband of Bertha Kudoba who predeceased him in 1972; father of Dallas (Mrs. Edward Cowan) who predeceased him August 15, 1961, and Verna (Mrs. Gordon E. Bender) who predeceased him August 19, 1967; brother of Ethel (Mrs. W. G. Stericker), Toronto; Rene (Mrs. W. G. Edwards) and Florence (Mrs. F. Metcalfe), both of Kitchener; grandfather of David Bender, Kitchener and Nancy (Mrs. Ronald Miller) of North Bay; great-grandfather of Andrew Bender and Kent Miller. Mr. Matthews was predeceased by one brother and three sisters. Friends may call at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. West, Kitchener, after 2 p.m. Sunday. Funeral and committal service in the chapel Monday at 1 p.m. with Dr. Frank H. Morgan officiating. Interment Woodland cemetery.

Edward Matthews - Following an illness of three months, Edward Matthews, age 87 years, a retired teamster, passed away at 6 o'clock this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William Boettger, 105 Elgin Street. Mr. Matthews was born in Acton, July 18, 1845, a son of Abram Matthews and Diana Nichlin. He was a member of Trinity Untied Church. His wife predeceased him in May, 1926. Two sons, Frank and Ormand D., both of this city, six daughters, Mrs. Ralph Akins, Mrs. R.T. Heath, both of Guelph, Mrs. Wm. Boettger, Mrs. Frank Metcalfe and Mrs. W.G. Edwards, of Kitchener, survive with one sister, Mrs. Hannah Reynolds of Lansing, Mich., and 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon with servicers at the residence, 105 Elgin Street, at 3 o'clock, Rev. Clarke Logan officiating and interment in Mount Hope Cemetery.
