    ATKINSON, Richard - Much loved and loving husband of Catherine (Katie Hussey). Went to be with his Lord at 83 years of age on Friday, September 22, 1995 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Guelph. Dearly loved and respected by his daughter Shirley and her husband Ron Clements of Cambridge and Margaret and her husband Bob Handfield of St. Ives, Australia. Cherished Grandy of Ron Clements Jr., and his wife Brenda, David Clements and his wife Lorie all of Cambridge, Robert Handfield of Langley, B.C. and Bethany Handfield of St. Ives, Australia. Adored by his great grandchildren Zachary, Kaitlin and Emma Clements. Sadly missed by his brothers Allan and his wife Vera and family of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia and John and his wife Ann and family of Guelph. Mr. Atkinson was a soldier in the Salvation Army, Cambridge Corps. He served five years in World War II with the R.C.C.S. and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Galt Branch #121. Resting at the Corbett Funeral Home, 95 Dundas Street, Cambridge where the family will receive friends on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service to be held at the Salvation Army Citadel, Shade St. Cambridge on Monday, September 25, 1995 at 2: 00 p.m. with Major R. Speakman officiating. Interment Mount View Cemetery, Cambridge. A Legion Service under the auspices of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #121 will be held at the Funeral Home on Sunday evening at 7 p.m. As expressions of sympathy donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

    ATKINSON, Catherine "Katie" - Went home to be with her Lord on Saturday November 21, 2009 in her 97th year at Stirling Heights LTCC. Katie was the loving and dearly loved wife of the late Richard Atkinson (1995). Dear mother of Shirley (Ron Clements) and Margaret (Dr. Bob Handfield). She leaves behind her grandchildren Ron and Brenda Clements and Dave and Lorie Clements all of Cambridge; Robert and Tracey Handfield of Summerland BC and Beth and David Sutton of Penticton BC. Her precious great-grandchildren Zachary, Katlin and Emma Clements of Cambridge, and Dawson and Allison Handfield of Summerland BC. Also surviving are her brother-in-law John Atkinson of Guelph, ON and her sister-in-law Vera Atkinson of Glace Bay, NS as well as several nieces and nephews. She will be lovingly remembered by her dear and faithful friend Ruth Barar. Katie was predeceased by her sister Ann Andrews of New York and her brother Bill Hussey of Glace Bay NS. Katie was born on her beloved island of Cape Breton and moved with Richard and their family to Cambridge in 1953. She was a soldier with the Salvation Army Cambridge Citadel, where she attended the Home League and the Naomi Group. She was a founding member of the Cape Breton Ladies Club. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be conducted at the Salvation Army, Cambridge Citadel, 16 Shade St., Cambridge on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 4 p.m. The family wishes to express a special thank you to the staff in Cabral House, at Stirling Heights LTCC for their loving care and respect they showed Katie.
