Notes:
Wife of Thomas McMaster, late Monday afternoon, February 26, 1923, at her home in Hespeler. Her passing has removed from Hespeler one of its most highly respected citizens, one who was known and respected by all. Her kind disposition and the good word she always had for others won her a host of friends. She was the daughter of the late Farrell Flynn and was born in Puslinch Township on the road from the Lake to Guelph and with her parents, brother and sister, moved to Hespeler, when she was about 12 and has been a constant resident of the town. Had she lived until March 1st, she would have been 83 years of age. She had been a resident of Hespeler for over seventy years and saw it grow from a small village to the thriving town, which it now is. Many the tale of the village had she to tell in her jovial way, for she was of good cheer in sickness or in health. Her virtues were many but they might all be summed up in the phrase, 'she was a good neighbour'. Fifty-three years ago next September, she married Mr. McMaster and the aged couple celebrated their golden wedding here quietly. She was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church and in her younger years, always took an active interest in church work. Besides her husband, she leaves three sons, Daniel, Edward and James; two daughters, Kate and Ida, all living in Hespeler; one sister, Sarah Flynn and one brother, John Flynn. One son, Thomas was killed in a railway accident in France, the first Canadian to lose his life. Two other children also predeceased her. Mrs. Harold Baker is a granddaughter. Requiem high mass was held at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. Father Mayers officiated. A large concourse of friends and neighbours followed her body to the grave.
