Charles Herbst

Charles Herbst died on Saturday at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. F. W. Scholl and Mr. Scholl, Euclid Avenue, Waterloo. A former cooper at the Canada Barrels and Kegs, he was 81 years old.

He was born in Normanby Township, Grey County. on Aug. 19. 1861, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Herbst (nee Juliana Hoffmeister). His wife, the former Margaret Schaus, survives him. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Waterloo.

Surviving are three sons, Edward, F. Herbst of Ayton, Charles G. Herbst of Waterloo. Henry P. Herbst of Ayton, and three step-sons, Edward Oehm of Hanover, John Schaus of Kitchener and William Ochm of Waterloo, three daughters, Mrs. F. Schlote, Mrs. F. W. Scholl and Mrs. Verner Rutz of Waterloo, and two stepdaughters, Mrs. Aaron Schenk of Waterloo and Mrs. William Ellis of Atwood. A brother, George, of Waterloo, and a sister, Mrs. George Kreuzer of Clifford, also survive. There are 37 grandchildren and five great grand-children.
