CALDWELL, Anna Elizabeth (nee McPhee)

Passed away peacefully, on Monday, November 3. 2003, with her family by her side. Beloved wife of the late Frank C. Caldwell. She was a devoted mother to her three sons, Frank, Larry and Cameron and a loving supporter to her daughters-in-law, Pat, Gloria and Lois. Anna will be lovingly remembered by her 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Survived by her brother, Hubert McPhee. Predeceased by her two brothers and one sister. The family will receive friends at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 621 King Street W.. Kitchener, on Thursday evening, from 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Ratz-Bechtel Chapel, on Friday, November 7, 2003, at 1: 30 p.m. Interment Mt. View Cemetery, Galt. Reception at Ratz-Bechtel Family Centre to follow.

Notes:

John was proprietor of the Central Hotel. In 1900 town council had made all verandah and other projections illegal. He refused to remove it and town authorities arrived to demolish it. He tried fighting them off with a water hose and failed. The hotel's verandah was removed he later moved to Hamilton where he died in 1926.

The Central Hotel

John C. Caldwell, proprietor. This hostelry is located midway up Main Street, and is one of the original "stopping places" of "ye olden time," and yet no better or more comfortable quarters can the weary traveller find. Centrally situated, bright and homelike in all its appointments, furnished as it is with every modern improvement, the Central is "Voted" all right
