An old pioneer of Waterloo County passed away on June 18th at the home of his son-in-law, Isaigh S. Eby of near Stevensville, in the person of Solomon Gingrich at the advanced age of 90 years, three months and one day. On July 4, 1926, he had a slight stroke from which he soon recovered. On May 29th of this year he had a second stroke and was confined to his bed although able to sit up, his mind remaining very clear. On Sunday, June 17th, however, he suffered a third stroke when he lapsed into unconsciousness which continued to the end.

The funeral was held from his late home on Wednesday, June 20th, and was conducted by Eld. Jesse D. Winger, Ridgeway, assisted by Eld. Warren Winger, Ridgeway, and Bishop John Sider, Wainfleet. Then at 6.10 a.m. Thursday, after a short prayer by Bishop Bert Sherk, Stevensville, his remains were taken to the home of his son, Oliver, in Hespeler, where a short service was held at 2 p.m. of the same day, conducted by Rev. Mr. Merner, pastor of the United Church, Hespeler, thence to the Union Church, Puslinch Township, which he had always attended, the funeral there being conducted by Bishop Bert Sherk of Stevensville, assisted by Eld. Simeon Çober, Kitchener, and Eld. Nathaniel Wildfong. Hespeler. His remains were laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery by the side of his wife and parents.

All his children except one were in attendance at the funeral; also four grandchildren and one great grandchild. His daughter, Mrs. Winger, and her granddaughter, Miss Muriel Zoreb of Saskatchewan, arrived just a few hours before the funeral. He was carried to rest by five nephews and one grand nephew, Oliver, Arthur and Alfred Panabaker of Hespeler, Vernon Cober, Kitchener, Amos Hunsberger, Hanover, and Rev. Charles Hommuth, Elm- wood.

The late Mr. Gingrich was a son of Michael Gingrich and Mary Warnner, long deceased. He was born March 17th, 1838, on the Gingrich homestead, near Preston, which his grandfather, David Gingrich, received from the Crown. The farm is now owned by Orville Groh.

On March 1st, 1864, he was married to Anna Cober of near Hespeler. To this union were born three sons and six daughters, Cyrus of Stevensville, Oliver, Hespeler, and Aaron, died young, Mrs. Isaiah S. Eby, Mrs. Andrew Sider, Misses Mary Ann and Nancy of Stevensville, Mrs. Levi B. Winger, Ridgeway, Ont., and Mrs. Abraham Winger, Deisle, Sask. He also leaves fifteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Magdelina Hunsberger, Hanover. Ont.. and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. The grandchildren reside at widely separated points, six living in Ontario, two in New York, two in California, two are missionaries in Rhodesia, one in Pennsylvania, one in Saskatchewan, and one lies 'neath the sod in Saskatchewan.

In 1867 he was converted and united with the Tunker church, of which he remained a faithful member to the end. In 1881 he was elected to the office of deacon.

In 1911 his wife passed away. In 1916 he sold the old homestead and on his seventy-ninth birthday moved to Stevensville to the home
of his daughter, with whom he spent the remainder of his life. He at all times had a remarkable memory and a clear mind and was highly regarded by a large acquaintanceship.
