Peacefully at his residence and surrounded by his family, on Sunday, October 30, 2011, at the age of 88. Loving and devoted husband of Helena (nee Monteiro). Cherished father of Lurdes Braga (Jose), Fatima Soares (Jose), Zenalia Nunes (Fernando), and Joe Tavares (Gabriella). Beloved grandfather of Michael Braga, Christopher Soares (Amanda), Vanessa Nunes, Jessica Nunes, Wesley Soares (Alisha), Timothy Tavares, Calvin Tavares, Kayla Tavares and loving great-grandfather of Sienna Soares. Joao will also be sadly missed by his sister, Maria Loura. Predeceased by brothers, Manuel, Antonio, Jose, Jorge and Agustinho. Resting at Corbett Funeral Home, 95 Dundas St., Cambridge, where the family received friends, Tuesday, November 1st, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Rosary Prayers followed at 8:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial, was celebrated, Wednesday, November 2nd, 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, Elgin St. S., Cambridge, with Interment following at Mount View Cemetery.
